THE DAVES.
Raw, honest indie rock n’ roll from a bunch of hardworking British lads with an incredible ability to pen an addictive chorus line – The Daves debut single, ‘Not in England’ hits the UK on May 19th. This is premium British talent akin to the likes of Oasis and The Stones and with a bunch of live dates set from March 14th, The Daves are seriously on track to follow the success of their predecessors.
The Daves are: Jim (singer), Pete (guitar) and brothers Johnny (bass) & Dave (drums), all East London lads born within the sound of the ref’s whistle at Upton Park. Brought together as kids by their passion for football, the boys cemented their friendship through the usual antics of East End teenagers. Blagging their first proper gig in Belgium at the age of 16 under the name of ‘Snatch', they played Oasis, Beatles and Stones covers to a crowd of 1,000 drunken English footie fans.
The band’s real break came when they met Aziz Ibrahim (Stone Roses, Ian Brown, Weller) who was so impressed by their raw talent that he invited them to play Glastonbury, where they left a Friday night crowd awe struck with their performance.
The Daves’ first recordings were captured during the 2007 ‘Tequila Sessions’ and collated into a mini-album called ‘Forever Happy’. It didn’t take long before the powers at Warner Chappell in Los Angeles were summoning the boys for serious chats, opening the doors to meetings with the likes of producer Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin & Iron Maiden) and spending precious studio time in Malibu music studios. This led to their track ‘April’s Shower’ being included on the album ‘Riot on Sunset’ – a compilation of all the best new breaking bands in LA and California.
But it was at a ‘Big Arm’ gig that they met producer and engineer, John Pennington (Moby, Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets) who offered to mix ‘Not in England’ and ‘Left Behind’. Later mastered by John Astley (The Who, Led Zeppelin, Bowie, Clapton).
The Daves are pure British talent gagging to be unleashed to the UK audience. Representing all the working class heroes in this country these boys understand what it’s like to live on the sharp end of life and their music promises to touch and ignite a passion in every blue-collared Brit out there.
