Alcyona

About Me

Alcyona was born in 1981 on the south coast of England, had a brief stint in the mountains of North Wales, began piano at the age of 5, before ending up in smelly old London via 4 years at the Birmingham Conservatoire. She took lessons with the inspirational and other worldy Liam Noble and went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music with Pete Churchill and Pete Saberton. Having received the Leverhulme Fellowship award from the Royal Academy, she was able to record her first album 'Around the Sun' in 2004 featuring all original material for a 5 piece band. Visit www.audio-b.com for details. Alcyona is now working on a project with French saxophonist Robin Fincker and percussionist Paul Clarvis. She has worked with Ingrid Laubrock, Chris Bowden, Gene Calderazzo, Tony Levin, John Etheridge, Zoe Rahman, Told by an Idiot Theatre Co, amongst others and is a member of the newly formed Loop Collective.'Alcyona has attracted a great deal of notice for her fluent yet clearly painstaking soloing in which tension is slowly built into the music..' Chris Parker Vortex reviews 2006'(composes) rhythmically devious pieces...sharp and sparing lyricism' John Fordham, The Guardian 2003
