About Me

LOL!!!! Coming July 31st, ROUND TEN: SAY CHEESE! It's all the music you would never play in public...unless your friends had a sense of humor!!! ...From DETROIT, to your side of the planet, thank you for the pages of PRO-DETROIT Comments below! That is an UNREAL amount of love!!! ...FOR GENERATIONS, AND IN SO MANY WAYS, DETROIT HAS ROCKED THE WORLD! So, it is with "love and respect," I dedicate this page of "diverse music videos and photography" to all Metro-Detroiters. Lift your heads up proudly...remember all that we are...and all that we have done! NEVER FORGET, through the good times and the bad, TOGETHER, there is nothing we can't accomplish (We The People)! My name is MATTHEW STEPHEN, and for those of you who asked, I did work for one of The University of Michigan's TV Studios and was a DJ for a couple of years while in college. I also have a knack for finding hits...HERE IS MY PROMISE TO YOU, NOTHING BUT THE BEST FOR ALL MY FRIENDS!............. So you think you're tuff!!!! Check out The Detroit Derby Girls (also see the myspace link below); "they practice" at Riverside Arena in Livonia Michigan. Some of these ladies and I skate at Riverside from 8 - 10:30 pm on Thursday nights. It's an open skate complete with "the most powerful sound system" and "best lighting effects" of all of the rinks in Michigan! In general, skating is a great way to stay in shape; and you don't even realize you are getting a great cardio workout (try that on a treadmill)! Oh yeah, if you go, be sure to say hello to Lionel (Owner), Justin (Manager/DJ), Pam (Cashier), and Gena (Floor Guard) www.riversidearena.com Detroit Derby Girls- Fox News

Music:

WELCOME TO THE MOTORCITY MUSIC MACHINE. Detroit has long been a power-force in the music industry. "NO OTHER CITY ON EARTH" can claim to have been home to three genres of music - Techno, Funk, and Motown! One could even argue that PUNK started here, in the 60's, with Iggy Pop/Stooges and The MC5. ...On this page, you will find a multitude of videos, from many different artists (past and present), who either lived here, or were influenced by our "diverse" music community...Let's start off ROUND NINE: THE LEADING LADIES OF DETROIT with Aretha Franklin. From her 60's European Tour, here she is performing (on piano) "Dr. Feelgood."Most know this next performer by her 70's international hit Don't Leave me This Way. Here is Thelma Houston covering Alicia Keyes hit "Falling in Love." At 1:47...all I can say is WOW!Bettye LaVette is Detroit's little secret. Her honest lyrics, and ability to sing from the soul, can captivate an audience - "Take Me like I Am."Detroiter Liz Larin can not only sing, but play a mean guitar too -"Spark Entertainment Magazine ad."Margaret Doll Rod, of the Demolition Dollrods, has the raw talent of a true rock 'n' roller - "Let's Get it On!"Adisa Cizmic, of Ingray, can ROCK OUT with the best of them - "Scream."From the Detroit Underground, here are The Gore Gore Girls with "Casino."
click here to see more videos like thisHere is Racheal Nagy of The Detroit Cobras - "Cha Cha Twist"
Over the last three decades, Madonna has produced countless hits. I decided on this video of "Where's the Party," because of it's look back...YOU GO GIRL 1:01!!!!Paris Grey came to Detroit to be a part of Techno DJ Kevin Saunderson's group Inner City - "Let it Reign." You may know their other hits Good Life and Big Fun!!This one is going out to all the TROOP-DANCE SQUADS....Lady TE "Hurricane!"Music genius Gloria Jones wrote "Tainted Love" here in Detroit, back in the 60's!!!Kim Weston "Take Me in Your Arms." Hey Tina and Jill...Shall we dance!?Here is LITTERALLY a leading lady of Detroit: Martha Reeves currently sits on Detroit City Council. I am sending this one out to Christine, who made this request while I was getting my oil changed. Dancing In The Street
Eliza Neals is one of Detroit's up-and-coming stars - "My Friend."Local sensation Beth Stalker has performed Christian, Country and the Blues. Below is one of her Christian works "Here with You."When it comes to country rock, Racheal Williams has is all! This one is fun...Gladys Knight on American Idol! This is when you know you have made it to THE BIG TIME! Anita Baker "Body and Soul." At 3:18 this song gets even better! MC Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007)...I had the honor meeting Pavarotti at the Three Tenors Concert in Detroit. It was the only venue they performed at in North America! From the musical Westside Story, "Somewhere," performed by Diana Ross and the Supremes...What an ending!I want to thank MOTOWN RECORDS, local artists (past and present), as well as, Ford, GM and Chrysler... for bringing generations of people to Detroit Michigan. We represent some of the best the world has to offer. STAND TOGETHER AND BE PROUD METRO DETROIT! ...A special thanks to the thousands of members of the international community (Here) who believe in Detroit, it's legacies and influence...THERE IS MUCH MORE TO COME!

Movies:

Too many to mention.

Television:

"IF" I can find the time, I seem to gravitate towards The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, Comedy Central, National Geographic, MSNBC, VH-1, and PBS respectively. As for shows, I like The Antique Road Show (love the stories/finds), American Choppers (love the attitude and creativity) and Deadliest Catch (Great Action)! As for network TV, I like local sports (social element) and American's Funniest Home Videos (LMAO)! My favorite TV commercial is by "Liberty Mutual;" it's theme: Random acts of people helping people (carry it forward).

Books:

"Tuesdays With Morrie" is one of a handful of books I have read more than once. Of course, a copy of "War and Peace" is good for a quick read...LOL!

Heroes:

As for heros, well you qualify...The map above was just recently posted.
