Piano Lass

About Me

Hello. My name is Deborah (or Debbie) and I am from the lovely (albeit quirky) town in the north east of England called Shildon, which is particularly famous for its steam engines. I have been living and working as a musician in London for the last three years. I am a pianist and voclaist, and write a lot of music which includes my own original madness, pop, R&B and soul tracks for a series of other artists. I have music coming out of my ears! (which can be slightly annoying at times!)I will leave the rest of the trumpet blowing to a good friend who wrote this fantastic review to the left of this page - which I think sums up myself and my music pretty well!Enjoy, and see you at a gig!........

Influences: A few things people have said about me.......................................................... ....DEBORAH SHAW- Jazz tinged doings from a singer songwriter gal who sensitively intones over minor key piano chords …Mazzy Star meets Tori Amos?! Actually Radiohead shaped songs like 'Fly' truly cut the mustard…she also messes about with beats and things a bit to winning effect. BUGBEAR PROMOTIONS.................................................. ..............'Stalkers! Wherever this girl sings she picks up a stalker! Seriously! In all shapes and sizes, the Deborah Shaw stalkers are won over at each performance by her heartfelt, to -the- bone lyrics, unique voice and her ability to push the boundaries of conventional singing technique. Like Jewel and Tori Amos before her, Deb comes from the Bjork school of vocal style. A bit mix-and-match, a bit here-and there, she keeps the audience guessing how each phrase will sound. Sometimes high and smooth, sometimes low and husky, in the words of Cole Porter, ‘Anything Goes’.Lyrically too, Deborah defies the mainstream fare of predictable rhymes and predictable content, instead opting for little girls swimming in sewers in South America. Seriously. And let me tell you, its damn effective! With a background in Jazz, Deb’s piano scoring is sensual and seductive, or chordal and simple. You will find her singing solo at the piano, or fronting a whole band. Electronically layered a la Goldfrapp in a studio, or unplugged at an acoustic night. That’s the way she is – always striving for variety. Unpredictable as hell, this girl will keep you guessing!’Katie Wood MyGen Profile Generator
