Sounds Like: The Chubby Alcoholic, Bobba Fresh, Mike Smokes, The Ladies Man, Robot Boy...just some drunk down the boozer.......PUBS DRUNKS AND HIP HOP...The production is crisp throughout the album, the instrumental tracks sitting comfortably between the vocal tracks, and this is enjoyable from start to finish. Pick it up, and play it to your mates
(BIG SMOKE MAGAZINE).......DIVERSION TACTICS/PERCEE P AND TIM DOG --- NY TO THE UK 12"...what can i say about this except,This Is Fat.The Uks very own Diversion Tactics teaming up with the extremely dope Percee P and one of my alltime favourite mcs ever, the legendary Tim Dog from Ultramagnetic..The production on this joint is quality,a fairly simple but straight to the point beat courtesy of Zygote and Jazz T and then of course theres the vocals by Squeaky Da Rixster ,Percee P,The Chubby Alchoholic and Tim Dog..No choras/hook on this joint, just straight up back to back spittin from each mc and each one of them drops a quality verse.I think i,ll go out and buy another copy of this 12" now and have a play around on the Decks. This joint is Number 1 on the Critical Beatdown chart right now (July 05)"Next time you want to rant about, take my dick out ya Motherfuckin mouth".......DIVERSION TACTICS DOLLARS AND PENCE EP...A new crew 'Diversion Tactics' present a strong debut release. The title track 'Pounds & Pence' highlights the verbal skills of both mainmen with Chubby Alcholic and Squeaky droppin tight verses with good clear diction n' nice mic presence. The track features J-Zone who interjects with his experiences of touring the UK basically rockin the cultural differences between the US and UK. This is just a nice chilled comedy track with J-Zone harping on about "Indian food in metal trays...Driving on the wrong damn side of the car", Sheep, Pubs, etc. The track has a good live vibe to it - helped with a simple bouncing beat which pushes the mc's through the tune. The second track 'Anecdote' is more abrasive - with stark drum based sounds bouncing off some wired para lyrics from US Mc Huggy Bear - this is a raw off kilter style track which isnt over listenable but is a tight grower. The last track 'Militant' has the best beat - a squelchy deep roller which has super headknockin value. This jazz b-line based beat is accompanied by extrafly cutting n' a smooth rhyme from another US cat - Al Shid. The rhyme chips across the break with ease and it makes good relaxed listening.Overall - the production (Dr Zygote) and cuts (Jazz T) are good quality across every track. The Mc's come with the goods with probably the title track holding down best verse honours with Squeaky and J-Zone battlin for top spit. Its a tight EP and a nice varied debut which shows Diversion Tactics flexing themselves in three different directions - which is a good sign for their forthcoming LP. One to watch.- Smiffy.......DIVERSION TACTICS JOE PESCI...Guildford's Tactics have been holding it down for quite some time now. Former ITF Champion DJ Jazz T alongside Dr.Zygote form the distinctive production backbone of the crew, with Chubby Alcoholic and Squeaky completing the vocal team. Steeped in the traditions of their art, Diversion Tactics bring sharp lyrics, tight cuts and truly distinctive beats. Their work with US artists J-Zone & HUG illustrating the diversity of their talents to great effect.......DIVERSION TACTICS - NO CONSUKUENCES, BOOT RECORDS...Brighton headz Diversion Tactics have been prolific over the last six months and keep up the tempo with this well-executed bootleg. Jacking the beat from their main man J-Zone's 'No Consequences' they flip a Blighty-style version of his daydream - a day where actions have no repercussions - and do themselves proud with some unique visions of their own and some refreshing if delinquent thinking ("Pick the locks on Tim Westwood's record box / fill it with independent British hip-hop"). Well worth hunting down this white label, and if you can't find it check for their excellent 'Dollars & Pence' EP with J-Zone and friends on Zebra Traffic.Grammar.......DIVERSION TACTICS FT BLADE & BEYOND THERE - LIVE TO LONDON/LADIES MAN...Pretty much the best UK producers on the scene at the minute, Jazz T and Zygote the production duo at Diversion Tactics have come up with two heavy must have beats. 'Live To London' featuring Blade and Beyond There is a well studied and uniquely constructed sample based joint. The hook on this track is a chorus of classic breaks, some from the old skool and other nineties gems are blended together seamlessly and will have you smiling in appreciation. On the flip, Chubby Alcoholic drops anecdotal quips about singledom that are well worth checking. Do not miss these boys, it's all about signature hard snares and genius sampling, why would you??...Scenario Records.......BOBBA FRESH
THE ARMCHAIR REVOLUTIONARY EP...DOWN+OUT / 2006...Bobba Fresh, aka the Chubby Alchoholic, is quite chubby and genuinely does have a drink problem. He's also noticeably fresh. Fresh as in cheeky, but more importantly as in innovative and expressive with his wordplay and thematic concerns. This EP is representative of much that's worthwhile in the UK hip-hop underground of late: uncompromisingly tough, metallic beats from Diversion Tactics' Zygote and Jazz T, great cutting, and carefully crafted, incisive lyrics that attack political apathy and social injustice with a fervour that would make Chuck D proud. Taking a page from Mr Lif's book, Bobba Fresh crucifies his boss with a "crown of thorns made from cigarette and coffee cups" and, referencing everyone from Bill Hicks and George Orwell to Deuteronomy and Shakespeare, proceeds to spit seven shades of vitriol at the priviliged capitalist cunts behind the divisive legislation currently crippling the once-great nation of Britain. "The fact you care, that makes you hip-hop," he rails at his peers, declaring a "civil war without a flak jacket" and pulling no punches in his barbed cynicism of the hypocritical, warmongering racists in government. The problems arising from Eastern European immigration, now there's a topic you don't hear about from T.I. or Lupe Fiasco too often. Bristol's criminally underrated Sir Beans OBE and J-Zone's Old Maid Billionaire cohort HUG are also on hand, helping to make this informed, passionate document of free-thinking in an increasingly oppressive and draconian political climate about as sick as bird flu.......KASHMERE ft THE LAST SKEPTIK & DIVERSION TACTICS...SHAOLIN IRON CLAW REMIX 12"...Guildfords finest, Diversion Tactics have consistently dropped dope 12 after dope 12, and with this release they arent breaking that chain. The original version of Shaloin Iron Claw, produced by North London up-and-comer, The Last Skeptik, was one of the standout cuts from Disordas UK Hustlers: The Return, which dropped earlier this year. But right here, DTs Zygote and Jazz T offer their own take with a remix that kicks harder than Kung-Fu flicks by Run Run Shaw. Essentially, what theyve added to the original is a super-hard drum break that will have necks snapping throughout the country. Kashmere AKA The Iguana Man AKA The Invisible Man waxes lyrical, displaying his many martial arts fighting styles, and for this remix, is joined by Diversion Tactics own Drunken Master, The Chubby Alcoholic, who more than holds his own.The flip side, King Koopa finds both Kash and Chubb on some straight sick shit over a low-fi, down tempo, darked-the-fuck-out Zygote and Jazz T beat, and even Chubbys Biz Markie-esque singing cant hinder this industrial banger...- Mark 563
