Paul Massary grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia in the town of Folsom, Pennsylvania. At age 13 he began singing folk songs that highlighted some of the unique charecters in his hometown. A couple of childhood friends joined in on guitar and drums. The end result sounded like a very loose Latino garage rock band. The music soon intensified with the addition of distorted electric guitars, screaming vocals and breakneck tempos. The band, now called Alternate Attitudes got there first gig at a local skateboard demo. Massary was a natural front man, leaping about and taking command of the tiny, makeshift stage. The punk music was alot of fun for the band, but it proved to have its limitations.
Paul, seeing it was time for a change, purchsed a used guitar and started playing some progressive thrash riffs. The band revamped and developed there own style with a tighter, more syncopated sound. They continued experimenting with different sounds and techniques until they were kicked out of there palatial practice studio. At that time the guys all went there seperate ways and this left Paul to return to his acoustic roots. The more intamate sound of the acoustic guitar mixed well with his voice and lyrical style. Paul's stories began to move and breathe with greater clarity and emotional essence, making it easy for the average listener to feel and relate to.
In order to support himself while he crafted his songs, Massary took on various odd jobs; everything from washing dishes to working in a t-shirt factory to flagging cars for a construction crew in the chilling and brutal Blizzard of 95. Enough money was saved to buy tools he needed to hand make a couple guitars and bass, all of which are featured on these recordings. Paul also purchased some recording equipment and recorded demos for many local bands including the now famous Sugar Daddie. He also composed and played the music in a commercial for MTV and wrote the score for various art films including Nightscare.
In 2002 Paul Massary loaded up his pickup and moved to Austin Texas. Since then he's been playing in the coffee houses, smoky bars, and honky-tonks throughout the South Texas area. He's jammed with blues players, singer-songwriters, country artists and many other fine musicians. All this experience has resulted in a entergetic and rythmic sound, which is soulful and confident. In the music lies a search for life, love, God and happiness. From the warmth of the Texas sun to the frost of a a Northeastern morning,These images and feelings are expressed through song. "I feel the music will grow like a strong tree with many beautiful fruit on the branches.God bless" -- Paul Massary
