Chalice Man born as Leon Alexander Witter in the North West of London, whose love for music was inevitable, due to being brought up around music from the earliest recollections of his childhood. His father and role model, aka Fud, is one of the original founders of the biggest London UK sound system in the 70s era Sufferer Sound System, his uncle Jumbo is the founder of the 1986 sound cup clash winners Java High Power Sound System. He first dreamed of starting a sound system himself at the early age of 10, after his fathers friend Bounty Hunter who was also the manager of the late Dennis Brown had given him a Stone Love sound tape hosted by Super Cat. Other influences came in the shape of his older cousin Mad Bwoy Peanut who was part of Sudden Impact Sound during the 90s. Mad Bwoy Peanut used to fuel young Leons love for Reggae and Dancehall sound systems by providing sound clash tapes on a regular basis. Having been raised by Jamaican parents, Reggae music was inevitably the foundation of his material taste, however, at the age of 12 he was going to all-dayers and under 18 raves and became fond of Jungle, Hip Hop, Soul & Swing as well.

***********At the age of 16 his father had treated him to his long awaited pair of turntables which complimented the records which he had been collecting years before. At this point he had an unexpected new love for House & Garage and he aspired more towards the club DJ scene rather than the whole sound system dream he originally had and his new alias Chalice had been born. At this point in his life he then started going to raves and clubs where the Garage scene was big and was still growing. As much as he enjoyed the raves he also saw it as homework, it was an easy way to know what tunes you need in your record box. Still just a bedroom DJ playing at the occasional house party and nightclub/bar, Chalice then discovered that he had a talent to make music and as he became more mature, so did the music he was creating.

***********At the age of 19 Chalice met up with Steelo da Shocka from Da Marvel & the pair started making songs together, Grime was the preferred choice for the pair. In 2001, not long after their callaboration Chalice had produced a track entitled Merciless and co-produced Climax, both tracks were cut onto one vinyl & then distributed to record shops throughout London. Choice FM DJ CK Flash gave the Climax track a lot of airplay over a series of months and that encouraged Chalice to continue making records. In 2002, Chalice then made the 15 Minute Riddim and carried a Dub Slate of the tune to Aiya Napa. DJs Steady & Smokey from HLC Entertainment, played the Dub in the Legendary Aiya Napa after party Insomnia where the song blew up the nightclub and was rewound 4 times by Mcs Specialist Moss, Miss Dynamite, Maxwell D & Viper. Tubby T then performed an exclusive live p.a. of Tales from the hood over the remainder of the track. When he returned to London, Heartless Crew & DJ Cameo were playing the track in raves and on radio, soon after the track was cut onto vinyl, it sold in excess of 2000 units as a white label promo throughout the UK and within Europe. Whilst the 15 Minute Riddim was circulating, Chalice and friend Cool-E-J were offered a weekly show on www.majorfm.com, and they were part of the station when Major Fm was awarded Best Internet Radio station at the sidewinder peoples choice awards in 2003.

In 2003, Chalice went back to Aiya Napa with TKO Punisher, Doom Man, Steelo Da Shocka, Spider Man & Iron Man, all of whom are members of Da Marvel. They were all booked to perform in clubs on the island by Dilemma alongside Boyz in da Hood, Nasty Crew, Meridian Family & Venom Crew. This business trip/ holiday was the perfect opportunity for Chalice to network with some of the greatest names in UK music and thereafter strong foundations were built. Once Chalice had returned from Aiya Napa his close friend Doom Man had an offer from an independent record label No Apologies for an album deal he could not refuse. Chalice being one of Doom Mans music producers had produced a track entitled Guns for Doom Mans forthcoming album Dooms Day. The track featured Hollywood actor Jason Fleming on the hook and was also featured on a Konami computer game Crime Life Gang Wars which was released in November 2005 on PS2, Xbox & PC format. ***********January 2004 Chalice & Cool-E-J started playing out in Central London every weekend and some weeknights. Together they have played in various night clubs and bars including Ministry of Sound, Cameos, 10 Room, Scala, Trap, Click, Break for the Boarder, Rockoco and other top clubs and bars in London. Dancehall and Garage is the main selection for the pair however Hip Hop, RNB and the occasional Jungle track would also get played. Chalice would always host the mike and entertain the crowd and they both took it in turns to DJ and select the music. During this phase, his music production had slowed down so Chalice decided to spend more time back in the studio perfecting his production skills. He is now producing Hip Hop, UK Grime, RNB, RNG, Reggae, Dub, Dancehall and Garage as his love for music is not restricted by any particular genre, however, he is mainly known for his successes in the UK Grime scene. He now has a DJ set on the Double Award winning Freeze 92.7FM also found on www.freezefm.co.uk each & every Monday 4pm - 6pm UK time, playing Hip Hop, RNB, Dancehall & old school Garage, alongside good friend TK (Onslaught Recordings). The radio show has proven to be a good outlet to promote all in-house production from Onslaught Recordings, No Apologies & ChaliceMan himself. The show had become very popular and the telephone lines were constantly busy and feedback given had been good and encouraging. The show has now been moved to Saturday nights 2am - 4am UK time as there are no restrictions to the material content that can be played during those hours plus the listeners are on a party vibe as they tune in after they have been out raving. The time has now come for Chalice to take his career in music further than he imagined when he was a boy with the ambition of starting his own sound system, he is now a man who has created is own sound and style of music production and the next step for him is to start up his own record label.
