The name Sweetie Irie is synonymous with UK ragga music; also known as 'The Mention Kid' he has been a pioneer of the scene since the eighties when he was in his teens.Born in 1970 in Ladbroke Grove, while still a youth Sweetie was a familiar dj on many Notting-Hill Carnival sound-systems like One Love, Coxon, Saxon and Java. Carnival was a good training ground for what were to become legendary live performances around the globe.A child star Sweetie Irie released his first tune at 14 and at 18 he vocalled his first killer cut 'On & On' for Aswad which was a hit in over 60 countries.Among Sweetie's other collaborations are Maxi Priest, Frankie Paul, Sanchez, Damon Albarn (Gorillaz), Roni Size, No Doubt and most recently Ian Brown. Indeed his collaboration with No Doubt opened all the shows on their the last world tour.As an artist Sweetie has worked with top producers in Jamaica and the UK like Bobby Digital, Sly and Robbie and Nellee Hooper and has written and produced for artists like Luciano, Topcat, Tippa Irie and Pras.Sweetie has been concentrating on his writing and production skills over the past couple of years has been busy writing and producing with artists like Gemma Fox (whose album he co-produced with Chucky Thompson and Midi Mafia) Killa Kela, Tubby T, Jim Jones (The Diplomats) and Neneh Cherry for his own production company 'The Hoodratz'.With his history and diverse songwriting and production talents Sweetie can bring out the best in any artist across all genres.
