About Me

Winner at the L.A. Music Awards for "Folk Rock Artist of the Year" for the song "Wish U Were Here," currently based out of Los Angeles, California, Mobetta Loretta is a singer/songwriter musician that hails from New Mexico. She is an introspective, folk rock artist that finds her muse in many genres ranging from country to blues and jazz. Her early youth was infiltrated with musical influences like Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams and Patsy Cline. Later, as Mobetta Loretta picked up a guitar at the age of 16 years old, she fell in love with the sounds of classic rock and roll musicians like Gene Vincent, Chet Atkins and Brian Setzer. Her roots rock music has influences from rockabilly and early american music such as blues and folk.In her college years, Mo' a.k.a. Mobetta Loretta appeared on the scene in Los Angeles, collaborating with several different aspiring musicians and later finding herself as a solo singer/songriter musician. With several "Open Mics" under her belt, Mobetta Loretta set out for more global exposure. She took the bull by the horns and decided to give it her all.She ventured to Europe to hone her skills and do some traveling. She rented a flat from a young university student in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. While living there, Mobetta Loretta performed as a street musician to earn her keep. She often earned enough money to buy her and her husband dinner and a couple of beers. While traveling, Mo' also had the opportunity to visit several countries in Western Europe, the Czech Republic and Morrocco, North Africa. The exposure to a different way of life and culture was just the inspiration Mo' needed to write more music and record in her home studio. She produced her debut EP, learning about digital production on her own. As you may notice, her recordings are very raw in form and need some mastering. However, the project was a beginning towards getting some of her ideas on record. Mo' says, "The artistic process is always an evolving adventure!"Back in the U.S., Mobetta Loretta has performed at several venues including local bars, coffee houses and singer/songwriter showcases exemplifying her intimate performance style in cities such as Albuquerque, New Mexico; Chapel Hill, Carborro, North Carolina; San Diego, Oceanside, Ocean Beach, City Heights, Hillcrest, Normal Heights, Los Angeles, Riverside, Redlands, and Palm Desert, CA.As well as smaller venues, Mo' has performed in front of larger audiences including the "Ocean Beach Street Scene" in San Diego, "Greenfest" in Coachella and the "Concert in the Pines" series in Wrightwood, showing her desire to exhibit her stage presence, which is fresh, real and authentic.Mobetta Loretta is a solo artist who loves to collaborate with other musicians on a regular basis. She plays most shows with notable multi-instrumentalist, Sean Johnson. Other musicians include: her late drummer Gary Van Noty, Curry Harter (harmonica), Nathan Hernandez (steel guitar), Fred Stuart (guitar), Chuck Stewart (bass), Cliff Vermillion (guitar), Mia Mercado a.k.a. Blue Bird (vocals), and Brittany Carvajal a.k.a. Scarlett O'Haywire (guitar & vocals). One friend and fellow musician said that if you go to a Mobetta Loretta show you will be "...reminded of a classic starlet such as Sophia Loren, but in a pint-size package!" Standing only 5' 2" tall, Mobetta Loretta will rock you whether she is playing her acoustic Martin or hollow-body electric guitar. Mo' will be the first to tell you that she wishes she was as cool as John Fogerty of CCR or Bob Dylan going electric. What is most compelling however, is Mo's voice which is reminiscent of Emmylou Harris, but unique in it's own right and sweetness. Her songwriting and lyrics are compelling and will cause you to stir such as when she sings, "War ain't good for nothin' 'cept for fillin' up a grave." MyGen Profile Generator
