David Vidal

Purveyor of Acoustic Blues and Other Cool Stuff

About Me

David Vidal plays acoustic blues, with infusions of New Orleans funk, hard core country and huge doses of original whimsy. Brought to a hard boil and turned down to a slow simmer.
Influenced by bluesmen like Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters, country icons like Hank Williams and Merle Haggard, latter day practitioners like Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal and Tom Waits, Vidal's music defies easy categorization and transcends expectations.
In addition to being an award winning songwriter, Vidal's guitar, harmonica and vocalizations have been featured on a number of recordings, films and television shows, including the Oscar winning My Cousin Vinny and the hit series Friday Night Lights. He also produced and played on Detroit singing phenom Laura Creamer's debut CD, featuring guest performances by Eagles Joe Walsh and Glen Frey.
Greg in Austin sez... "David Vidal's tunes capture the essence of that raw to the bone blues soul out of the past while at the same time spinning some elevated consciousness from the likes of Lao Tzu and Carlos Castaneda inside the notes."
Born in the high desert town of Gallup, New Mexico, David Vidal was raised by a pack of degenerate coyotes who abandoned him wearing nothing but swaddling clothes behind a bar in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
Vidal's show highlights rhythmic American classics interspersed with outstanding original selections from his four solo CD's. He has played to enthusiastic audiences across the United States and Europe. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll tap your foot and wiggle in your seat. You may even get up and dance. It happens.
David Vidal uses a Stevens steel for slide, or a ceramic slide, or occasionally a shot glass. He will be touring this summer with John Amos, the two of them together known as Damn Coyotes!

McFlailin’ in Fantasy Land

So the big accusation against Barack Obama coming out of Camp McFlailin' seems to be that he might not view America in a monolithic, egocentric, homeland uber alles way. That he might view us as one n...

Romper Room Revisited

Okay then, I watched the vice presidential debate in a theater in West Los Angeles. The enormous vision of Sarah Palin caused a flash back, but don't worry, I maintained my composure. Nobody knew I wa...

Clean Up The Mess

This is why you need a really good communicator in the White House. The Bailout, or whatever the hell they're calling it now, is getting a bunch of nonsensical stuff tacked onto it so it will pass. Ra...

So sometimes there's no doubt in my mind that alternative universes exist. For instance, after last night's debate between Barack Obama and John McCain, I watched a bit of the analysis. Because the Mc...
