About Me

A bold new world of provocative erotica is coming like never before via new DVD company Severin Films, it was announced today by principals David Gregory, Carl Daft and John Cregan. The label, with offices in Los Angeles and London, is dedicated to unearthing, restoring and releasing a full slate of controversial erotic features from around the globe, including women-in-prison epics, soft-core sensations, ‘nunsploitation’ shockers, art house classics and beyond. The label inaugurates its mission on June 27, 2006 with the long-awaited release of the 1984 hit THE PERILS OF GWENDOLINE, starring ‘80s video vixen and current Surreal Life harridan Tawny Kitaen. This lesbians & leather cult favorite directed by Just Jaeckin (EMMANUELLE, STORY OF ‘O’) is based on the notorious adult comic and will be released in both ‘R’ and uncensored/unrated versions, the latter featuring scenes never before seen in America. The film has been fully restored from original French vault elements and features Extras that include an audio commentary with writer/director Jaeckin, Kitaen’s revealing photo spread from French adult magazine Lui, and an interview with comic creator John Willie conducted by The Kinsey Institute. On July 25th, Severin will release John Lamond’s FELICITY, the infamous ‘80s ‘Skinemax’ classic about a sheltered teenage girl’s odyssey of forbidden desire and erotic surrender that defined a generation of horny young men (and quite a few women, too). Widely regarded as the English language EMMANUELLE, FELICITY is presented in a fully restored and totally uncensored Director’s Cut, featuring a new audio commentary by Lamond and luscious star Glory Annen.“If you want to understand a culture, you must first explore its erotica,” says Severin’s Daft. “The names ‘Gwendoline’ and ‘Felicity’ will be the first in a long line of celluloid sirens to be embedded in many a viewer’s mind and libido.” Daft and Gregory co-founded the subversive DVD label Blue Underground UK in 1998 to produce internationally acclaimed discs for Warner Bros., Anchor Bay, Dark Sky Films and Arrow Releasing. The team eventually went on to become principals of popular LA-based Blue Underground, where their projects included such acclaimed Special Edition discs as THE MONDO CANE COLLECTION, THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE, and THE ALAN CLARKE COLLECTION. “We plan to bring the expertise and attention to detail which typified Blue Underground DVDs to our new label Severin,” says David Gregory, “but with an emphasis on the truly vast and fascinating world of international erotica. These are the films that have challenged, titillated and often outraged cinema audiences around the world, and undoubtedly will again on DVD.”The name ‘Severin’ comes from the protagonist – and original literary S&M submissive – of Sacher-Masoch's infamous novel Venus In Furs and further immortalized into the zeitgeist by The Velvet Underground. The label’s future DVD releases include celebrated erotica by such renowned international auteurs as Jess Franco, Walerian Borowczyk, Shuji Terayama, Lucio Fulci and Joe D’Amato. “Right now we consider ourselves ‘The Criterion of Smut’,” says John Cregan, “but by this time next year Criterion will be known as ‘The Severin of Pretension.’"
