I started Whit Hill and the Postcards in 2001, 'cause I wanted my songs to be louder.I was born and raised in New York City, graduated from the High School for the Performing Arts and got a dance degree from the University of Michigan. I was a professional choreographer for many years; my company was based in Ann Arbor. I made about 60 dance and theater works and taught a zillion classes in studios, colleges and universities all over Michigan. On the side, I toured as a backup singer with Dick Siegel's band for about five years, then I stopped dancing entirely and started the Postcards. My husband, Al Hill (www.alhillblues.com) is responsible for getting me serious about songwriting. Al is one of Michigan's best-loved blues and boogie woogie artists, and is also music director for soul diva Bettye Lavette. He's always bopping off to Europe with her which leaves me lots of writing time.Other interesting things about me, including some confessions: I have a Rottweiler named Dinah. I once delivered a friend's baby in the hallway of her apartment. (Actually, she delivered her baby; I helped.) My dad is an actor and was on the Sopranos last season and had a pretty good part in Zodiac, with several scenes opposite Jake Gyllenhall. We are in the midst of relocating to Nashville. I am not interested in diamond rings or Hummers. I consider myself a home birth activist. I am 38 years older than my brother. Sometimes, for fleeting moments, I care slightly about some sports. Since I got my dog, I don't spend enough time with my cats. I am the one who stole the candy at that camp in Maine and yes, I did lie about it when confronted. The most incredible thing I ever saw (aside from babies being born) was the Aurora Borealis in northern Michigan in 1990. It was like God drawing spirals for hours and hours and hours.www.whithill.comis the best way to learn all about me and my band. Both our cds are available atwww.cdbaby.com
