About Me

Lee's Comics is Northern California's leading comics retailer.
We have 2 locations, open 7 days a week to serve you. No matter what kind of comics and graphic novels you are looking for, you will find a comprehensive selection at Lee's. You will not find a selection like this anywhere else in the area. We also buy and sell back issues, and Golden and Silver Age comics.
The Lee's Comics special events are legendary in the industry. Alex Ross and Paul Dini have appeared 5 times over the years to celebrate the release of their large format books. Other notable guests at Lee's Comics have included Jim Lee , David Mack, Brian Michael Bendis, Peter Bagge, Dan Clowes, Grant Morrison , Terry Moore , Wendy Pini , Adrian Tomine , and Frank Stack .

My name is Lee Hester. I am the owner of the store. You may have met me before at the stores or at Wonder Con, the Ape, or San Diego. I founded Lee's Comics in 1982. I plan on keeping it going for at least another 30 years. I'm new to My Space as of May 2006.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet people who buy comic books and graphic novels.
I'd like to meet people who want to sell me their collection.
I'd like to meet poople who collect old comic books.
I'd like to meet people who create comics, movies, music, and other arts.
I'd like to network with business people.
But most of all, I'd like to meet YOU!
IMPORTANT: Make sure to send a note along with your request to be added as friend. I am interested only in adding real, quality people with an interest in comics in general or Lee's Comics in specific. I am not interested in adding random people willy-nilly.

Music:

I like so many kinds of music it's more like what I DON"T like, rather than what I do! I like Jazz, Vocals, Oldies, Classic Rock, Classical, Country (old school only), some Rap, Dance, Electronic, etc. You name it, as long as it's good. I don't like noise and tension for the sake of noise and tension. I guess I usually like a certain level of craft in my entertainments. I like things that are well made. I see no virtue in shabbiness or amateurism. My favorite Musician is Frank Sinatra. I also love Ella Fitzgerald and Mel Torme. The first group I loved is the Beatles. My favorite album is Lambert Hendrics and Ross "Everybody's Boppin'". Joni Mitchell is my favorite singer/songwriter. I think Brian Wilson is an unsung genius.

Movies:

I am a voracious movie viewer. I try to see all of history's great films. My favorite movie is Singin' in the Rain. Here are some great films, off the top of my head.
Sunset Boulevard
The Third Man
The Train
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Paths of Glory
A Clockwork Orange
Pinocchio
Here are some newer films that I loved.
Amalie
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Pulp Fiction
Run Lola Run
Schindler's List
Iron Giant
Crash
Goodnight and Good Luck

Television:

I don't watch a lot of TV except for using it as a monitor to watch DVDs.
We do have HBO, and I enjoy many of the programs there.
Soprannos
Deadwood
Rome
Real Time with Bill Maher
I like the Simpsons
I alway's insist on watching America's Funniest Videos. Connie would rather watch 60 minutes.
A couple of weeks ago I got the Lost Season 1 DVD for my Birthday. I got totally hooked on it, like no TV show ever!

Books:

Here's some "Graphic Novels" that I enjoyed:
The R. Crumb Handbook
Blankets by Craig Thompson
Black Hole by Charles Burns
Embroideries by Marjane Satrapi
Watchmen by Alan Moore
V for Vendetta Alan Moore
Sin City by Frank Miller
Maus by Art Spiegelman

Heroes:

Heros are all around us. They are the people who help out when others pretend not to see. They are the people who are nice to those that can do them no benefit. My hero is my wonderful wife Connie who raises twin daughters, works a tough job, and runs marathons to relax. My hero is my Mother in Law Kathleen who is always there for the family with help and encouragement and never says a negative word. My heroes are Hannah and Sophie my bright and beautiful girls who, for inexplicable reasons, are my biggest fans. My hero is Humphrey, the Hound of Steel, and Man's best friend. I'm also partial to Superman, but he doesn't really exist.
