Chief

When I think of our condition, my heart is heavy.

About Me

I was the leader of the Wallowa Band of the Nez Perce tribe, whose lands were in what is now Oregon and Washington in the western United States. In 1877 I led my tribe on a 1400-mile retreat from U.S. troops, which ended in the Battle of Bear Paw Mountains in Montana. I am now remembered for the statement: "From where the sun now stands I will fight no more forever." I died of a broken heart after spending the last two decades of my life on reservations. My body passed into the very heart of Mother Earth in 1904, but my spirit will endure forever.

My Interests

Teaching those who will listen about the lives, customs, and traditions of a beautiful and benevolent people. Learning from my fellow man. Lending an ear to those who need it... Keeping the resting places of my ancestors quiet, peaceful, harmonious, and untainted by the hand of man.

I'd like to meet:

Those who will listen and those who need someone to listen

Books:

I have no need of books, as the great lessons of life are held in the heart.

Heroes:

Our Mother the Earth, our Father the Sky, our Ancestors, our Brothers the Eagle, the Bear, the Wolf, the Mountains, the Streams and Oceans, and all of the kindred spirits that compose the harmony of the one Great Spirit.
