Ges-e (pronounced Guess-e) began his career back in the nineties playing dance music. He began by spinning tunes at local parties in and around Brick Lane. As a Dj his love of underground dance music, Kawali and Classical Indian music naturally began to combine creating his own unique sound.He soon found himself Djing at Talvin Singh’s infamous "Anokha" club night at the legendry Blue Note spinning Ustad Bismillah Khan records over DnB rhythms. He also became a resident Dj and recording artist for Outcaste / Tommy Boy Records, spinning regularly at the Notting Hill Arts Club and suporting label mates Nitin Sawhney and Badmarsh and Shri.In 1998 Ges-e produced 4 tracks for the “Outcaste new breed UK†album, a turning point in his career.
He found himself touring all over the world spreading this unique sound then known as the "Asian Underground". He has Shared the stage with artists such as Roni Size, Trilok Gurtu, Fabio, Norman Jay, Robert Miles, Kenny Dope Gonzales, Masters at Work to name a few.Beyond his illustrious Dj career Ges-e has also recorded and remixed for Nitin Sawhney, Ojos De Brujo, and A.R. Rahman.In 2003 Ges-e set up Nasha records a label with a vision in spreading Global influenced dance music.The first release – Eastern Drum and Breaks – vol 1 was launched at super club Fabric and made album of the issue in DJ magazine and was well received by all the international dance press.3 tracks found themselves featured on Nitin Sawhney’s Fabric live cd and received
Extensive airplay from BBC Radio 1.Nasha went from strength to strength, having released “Eastern Drum and Breaks – vol 1†Ges-e went on to set up the Nasha records seminal club night in the heart of London’s East End @ Herbal in Shoreditch and at the Gramaphone in Spitalfields. The club nights encouraged experimentalism, tabla player's interacting with Dj / Producers creating the Nasha sound.2005 saw the release of critically acclaimed “Eastern Drum and Breaks – Vol 2†following on from the success of vol 1. Nasha clearly set the benchmark as a reference label for Eastern Breaks.Nasha tunes were dropped at Grooveriders Grace, Hospitality and played by heavyweights LTJ Bukem, Ray Keith, DJ Spooky, Rob Louis and many Dj's worldwide.The Gaza Strip and Sahara by Ges-e also featured on channel 4’s movie “Mischief Nightâ€. Militant 24 was used by BBC’s Desi DNA as the title track.
Many Nasha tunes are regularly used for film and TV.Ges-e and Osmani Soundz aka “The Nasha Experience†have recorded compositions for dance, they have worked with dancer / choreographer Vena Ramphal. Their work has featured at the Royal Opera House, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Trafalgar Square festival.Ges-e and Osmani Soundz have since set up N.E.M.M.O. (Nasha Education Music and Multimedia Organization) an education wing of Nasha records, helping young people in Tower Hamlets to be creative and helping young people achieve accredited qualifications in music and media leading on to higher education.The Nasha story continues, the latest and most anticipated project the "Nasha V3" compilation album is due to be released late 2008 featuring 16 tracks from Ges-e, Osmani Soundz, Sukh Knight, Shandy,The Nasha Experience, and Nuphlo.The journey has only just begun.www.nasha.co.uk
