When I was a little girl, I dreamed of being a star. For a long time, I thought it was just that. A dream. Now, I realize that sometimes dreams come true. If you want them bad enough. If you're willing to work for them. Even so, I still have to pinch myself every now and then. Just to be sure I'm not dreaming...
My passion is music. Through the songs I write and perform I show the world who I am and what I'm all about. Totally Toya, you know? It's really not just words and notes. It's emotions and experiences and everything that's deep down inside. It's funny, when you think about it. That you can earn a living just by being yourself and not being afraid to put it all out there.
When I won the national Rising Star competition, I thought I was on my way. Well, I was and I wasn't. Playing the Apollo Theatre was just awesome, but alot about making it is waiting for the right time to shine. Then Canadian Idol came along and I made it into the Top 6. Even more importantly, I met Farley Flex and he believed in me. Farley became more than just my manager, he became my biggest fan. I'd finally made it! Record deal in hand, it was time to record. Believe me when I say that it was a mixed blessing. Getting the contract was one thing, making the music was another. I consider it a labor of love.
When I left the show, I was starting down a whole new road. The album I put out on Flex's Plasma label last August (S.O.B. Story) is the result of the first leg of my journey. Listen to it. This is who I am. I know 20 tracks is a lot, but I had a lot to say, and there's some great stuff that I did with Eternia and Subliminal on the CD, too.
So, that's about it. Everything that you need to know about me, at least everything that matters. I'm just another Canadian girl from GTA who had a dream. What's yours? Whatever it is, I hope you live it every day.
