Dylan Roach consists of 6 eclectic comrades who've all known each other since their "Teens"when their only ambition was to play & develop music with the energy,ability & creativity of their contempories.Formed originally as a 5 piece with former Dirty Raincoats singer Danny Ashberry & aided by the belief & encouragement of their friend,the now legendary SIDDI BOUARD (John in our top friends) they helped after a couple of years cutting their teeth on the Manchester/U.K.circuit to form the collective of APOCOLYPSE STUDIOS in Bury,Lancashire with Art/Rock outfit The Purple Effect who's drummer Carlos soon entered the Roach's ranks following the appointment a year previously of vocalist Sly McBain.They then promptly aquired the production skills of Keyboard Guru Andy Melchior & set about recording their 13 track debut"Lost'n'Stoned"Featuring tracks as diverse as Rockers"900%","Pawns or Prawns",the magnum-opus"Charlie Boy"plus funk work-outs"Dopehead""Hit the Ground Running"&"Realitys Boat".Since it's inception in summer 1993 Apocolypse Studios has produced bands such as"Aniseed,Five Go Naked,Thought Criminal,Violent Playground,This Product,Jupiter Sands" & most universally well know "Elbow" plus association with many others such as "Slims" & fellow myspace terrorist"Godbomb".It has been run by the increasingly successful David R.Black & their 1000 Watt Club who keep the tradition/ethos of promoting new talent from the area.
After a 3 year sebaticle while they collaborated with other artists such as Mark Burgess of the Chameleons (Birn),Peter Hooks' Monaco (Gator & Birn),the Pioneering Drum'n'Bass night"Pork Scratchin'"at Night & Day + Electro outfit"Bad Mummy" (Gaz & Carlos).Manchesters'seminal"Unsung Heroes" Aniseed (as Steve Fiasco a.k.a.our"Club-hand"Bobby Magee). In 1999 the Roach relocated to Sanky Soap in the Northern Quarter to develop a new style taking from their Hard Funk/Rock origins to a more fluid combination that incorporated their freeform Jazz & Dance infuences.A year later after an aborted attempt with a different vocalist.Sly McBain was re-enstated in his rightful place & recording comenced on their 2nd Album.The 15 track"Share the Wealth...Brother"at Studio Studio,Whitworth producing themselves but featuring the increasing imput & aid of engineer Peter Troughton as well as guests such as Anarog's Chris Magraph playing on the tracks"Driver","Tinted Venetians/Alimony".On the Disco tinged"Left,Gonna Do Right"Soul Diva Sherrin Donaldson & fellow"Right Stuff"Trumpeter John Waterhouse who can be heard on "Black Molasses"&"Suppose".Completing the horn section Saxophonists'Tony Marshall & John Wolfenden.(A small percentage of these sessions can be found on this site,with many more to follow).
In 2004 live performances were ceased(not permanently!) due to increasing work outside the group.Carlos has provided his drumming skills to Twisted Nerves'SIRCONICAL,Graham Massey's TOOLSHED project & more recently has joined Hard Rockers I-DEF-I plus is recording an album with Turntable Champion D.J.Woody.Gaz has established himself as a highly sort after Producer/Engineer at Manchester's BLUEPRINT STUDIOS most recently home to the resurected 80's T.V.Show "The Tube".Credits include 50 cents last album,Justin Timberlake with Duran Duran producing "Falling Down"While Sly & "Club-hand"gigged 2004-6 with funksters'PRIMATES OF...featuring Bassist D=Mc2 & Chris Maher of I-Def-I (keys by Gator) which mutated in 2006 into the more punky "NICO=TYRELL" then incorporating Dylan Roachs original vocalist Danny Ashberry on Hammond Organ with Birn Striper taking over Drum duties while continuing his association playing live for David Potts of Monaco fame.Magee has since rebonded & set up
his writting partnership with lyricist/beat poet lunatic Lee Howard a.k.a.Tommy T.Right(responsable for the original ideas/concepts of early Roach"classics"Eatin'Big Sean & Charlie Boy"now under the moniker of "THE BLACK MARIAS".
2007/8 brings us Gator H.Baxter's long awaited "Electronic"project with Alison Carney from Urban Blue."DAMOBIUS".Birn.Danny & Club-Hand have now fufilled th'Drums,Bass & Guitar positions to augment & solidify the new "Lush" synthesized approach.Giggs at The Ruby Longe,Manchester & The Dublin Castle,London are lined up for March 13 & 15th 2008 with a 11 track album nearing completion.
Work continues on Dylan Roach's 3rd long player (32 tracks an'counting!!)"GONNA KICK YU'BACK DOORS IN!!" with cut's"Panic Stations","Guns of the Navarone","Exquisite","Havana Cadaver","Divide & Conquer","Dogfights in December","Biff in the Street (Half man,half Dust)"all tracked in May-Aug'07 & sessions at Blueprint Studios in September with Producer Tim Thomas bore fruits of "All Smiles","The Intolerable I&I"plus the psychedelic epic"We Chased a Rainbow..but Muthrf**kers got there".
Finished tracks feature a more harder electronic slant.The completed include the yet to be revealed "Sick Puppies","Hellraiser","Money shots(in glorious infinate reprise)","Megalomania","Frightening the Horses","XXX Monster"plus still languishing a 16 track session with Chris Maher which included covers of Mr Bungle's"Travolta"Faith No More's"Everthing's Ruined"& now recorded "Chainsaw Toyshop"Written for the Roachs "4th *Concept*Album" The Babel Fabels.Most recently Dylan Roach conviened live to form part of the in-house band The Happiness Sisters playing The Strangeways Christmas Riot at Blueprint Studios on Dec' 16th 2006 & Dec'15th 2007.
