Octavio a.k.a. DJ ONCS6

I'm out to musically influence the world...

About Me

Octavio Santos has traces of blood in his music stream. He grew up on classical music and jazz records that his father played for entertainment as child. Immersed in music listening at a young age, he discovered his love for it by raiding his father's CD collection when a purchase was made. Upon the discovery of Incognito's "Positivity" CD in one of the untouched shelves, he ended up freein' it from his father's hands in playin' it on repeat mode in his stereo. From there, he decided to check out a Incognito's "Future Remixed" album which turned him onto the likes of Jazzanova, Masters At Work and MJ Cole, among other electronic music producers. His dance with the trumpet happened through his grade 7 music teacher. He was upset at the fact that he was given his 3rd choice instrument (the 1st choice being alto sax and 2nd being tenor sax...listening to plenty of David Sanborn and Kirk Whalum), but realized that he was able to grasp the use of it quickly, thus becomin' his main weapon of choice. He brought those skills throughout his high school year after a music teacher of his encouraged him to join the high school band and jazz ensemble. Wherever he was, his trumpet was not far behind. After much beat digging and music tastemaking from the jazz, R&B, funk, 70's soul, electronic and hip hop genres coming from research, curiosity and the great DJ of all DJ's Gilles Peterson, he decided to share the music with other people. That led him to DJing at his high school during lunches in his senior year. The first time he stepped up, people didn't feel what he was up to, what with all the top 40 minded in the region. However, there were the other bunch of people who told him that they were on a deep vibe and appreciated the nuggets that he dispensed. From there, he adopted the name DJ ONCS6 (his initials...for you to figure out) and was a name known for his eclectic palette. During that year as well, he realized that he had a knack for poetry from a hip hop standpoint and spent his time finding his voice recording a few dubs here and there, dropping his DJ title and leaving the initials standing for his rap persona. While that was happening, CFRE Radio welcomed him to bring his attributes to the airwaves and delivered quality programming as a seasoned veteran with a show entitled The Vibrasonic Experiment . He found his voice during the time he linked up with rapper J-Smoov, a high school classmate of his, for a radio live in session, knowing that they had the rhyme chemistry. On the side, he has been organizing and performing at musical events and recording rhymes for his own listening as well as those who wanted to hear it. He has formed a super band of talented musicians from the GTA which started as a small improvisational band in 2006 called "The Vibrasonic Sessions". The roster has expanded to 20+ and is still accepting dedicated and talented individuals who do it for the love of the game. He is involved in several projects at the moment, one of which is a dub mixtape entitled "Overdub Sensation". The Vibrasonic Sessions have remained a stable, more permanent unit and are currently lifting off with Louwop The Dirty General and Roach One behind the mic. You'll find him popping in other artist projects in 2008. UK's Mantis Recordings has taken an interest in ONCS6's gritty, unhappy employee, tell off your boss joint called "I Quit". He tossed the dub over to UK producer Clyde (known for his collaborations with Capitol A on "Serve It Up" and "Broken Slang") for the whips, but ended up receiving a question, "Can I do a remix?" Remix?! It's a dub...an original beat must be done! He's always on the grind, concocting something in his creative mind. Be on the lookout for projects turning into products in the future. Now, let's get on to me, ME. I'm an upbeat guy who likes to crack jokes for pure entertainment and a pretty nice dude. People who know me can attest to that. I'm probably one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. But please, don't take advantage of my kindness and don't be fake. I don't play that game and you might as well be DEAD to me...serious. I only give one strike...not three...one. I have no problem droppin' your ass out to dry 'cause I know enough good people who are 10 times worth your person, so think hard before you try somethin' stupid, ya dig? Otherwise, we all good. If I made friends with you (I make them easily), then you already know what I'm like personality wise. Read the testimonials for proof. Unless they're ads or generic cut and paste deals, you can't base anythin' on that, ha!I'm immersed in music (and everyone who knows me knows that) and I enjoy a wide variety of genres. I'm a tastemaker of music and I actively seek new upcoming talent as well as artists that have already done justice to my ears. People wonder where the hell I draw my music sources from cause it's just that good ;) I play trumpet and drums. I mess around with the keyboards, but I'm not proficient in it. I've played alto/tenor sax, electric bass and clarinet. I'm hoping to expand my jammabilities with more instruments. In my spare time I try to make mix CD's, produce new beats on acappella tracks, writing rhymes when I have the time and I verse out my lyrics on the microphone. Oh yes, I beatbox and vocal scratch. Call me a vocal percussionist if you will. I have an extensive collection of albums, CD's (most definitely) and some vinyl. I love to sing R&B songs. If you bust out the rhythms...I'll provide the boogie. That is to say I can dance. I love basketball & play it whenever. Tennis is my second playable sport. I enjoy watching basketball, baseball, hockey and tennis. I'm a 59FIFTY cap whore. I'm a radio DJ. The show is called "The Vibrasonic Experiment" which is the recipient of the 2004-2005 Atomic Turntable/People's Choice awards as well as the CFRE Lifetime Achievement award. Check it HERE! I play nothing but groove (electronic/jazz/hip hop/r&b/70's funk, etc).I've been in 3 defunct groups: The Urban Minstrels, The Beat Magnetzz & Drumzone. If you have any releases...please don't hesitate to contact me and hook me up. I would like to play and promote your music on the airwaves. I'm one of those cats who will do it IF I THINK the rest of the world should hear your skills in play. If you'd like to do a live in session for the show (and I'M ALWAYS DOWN FOR THAT) please contact me and hopefully we can work something out.Wanna see more pics & hear what's up with yours truly, check it http://spaces.msn.com/members/thevibrasonicexperiment I wrote articles for The University of Toronto @ Mississauga's The Medium about the artists that come in for live in sessions in order to put a face to the talent and to get them known.
