GFW was formed as a voluntary organisation in 1994 with the aim to offer a facility for people to increase their knowledge of Scottish Traditional Fiddle styles and to learn more about fiddle music and its history. GFW was reconstituted as a Scottish charity No SCO29502 in November 1999.**GFW's OBJECTIVES** Glasgow Fiddle Workshop's Key objectives are :-To advance education, and in particular to promote the learning, understanding and appreciation of Scottish traditional fiddle music, its links with other traditions and its contemporary development; and to act as a conduit for the tradition. -In furtherance of the above objects, the Association shall seek to provide tutors to give group instruction to the general public on the fiddle, with particular emphasis on Scottish traditional styles and on learning by ear.**GFW Aims**-To promote the learning, understanding, appreciation, preservation & development of Scottish Traditional fiddle music -To bring traditional fiddle music into the community as performers to enable social interaction of people with a common interestEmphasis is given to enabling participants to improve and develop their own individual fiddle technique. All the activity is coordinated by a voluntary committee of members with a part time administrator. All funds raised are directed towards furthering the aims of the organisation.Over recent years GFW has grown as an organisation and now offers tuition, not just in the fiddle but also the Cello, Guitar, Whistle, Mandolin, Bodhran, Harmonica, Banjo and Song. All our classes are held in Stow College in Glasgow with the Fiddle and Cello classes on a Wednesday night and all other classes on a Monday. For more information check out our website.
