Band Members: Three Major Myths and Misrepresentations About UK Air Guitar Championships as found on the Air Guitar UK [look-a-like, sound-a-like we know] Myspace page.

1. Myth: The Very First Official UK Championships was in 2006 in a Shopping Mall in Islington.

Fact: I've been doing an organized Championships since 1995, 1994 if you call what happened at the 1st one a competition... and its has been known and been called The UK Air Guitar Championships ever since.

2. Myth & Misrepresentation: Air Guitar Uk Write "For years now the UK's Air-guitar scene has been an underground movement surfacing in clubs cabarets and bedrooms around the country."

Facts: It has been going for over a decade now - major Championships, national and international TV, press, Radio, Internet and Film coverage every year, 1000s of press reports, The Cover of the Guardian Guide, Double page spreads in the Sun, Coverage on all major UK/IRE TV networks, Chat shows, Kids Shows, Tours in the 4 countries of the UK, plus the 1st Air Guitar events in France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain [the "World" championships only have 12 countries in total even now ] & Further Afield, Merchandise in 7 Countries, CD compilations, Documentaries, Fiction Films, you name it its been done.

3. Myth: ". There have been many well respected Championships,"

Fact: There is only ever been one - this one. And Air Guitar UK desperately want you to think they're the only one now.

ONE FINAL NOTE:
I guess you have to understand - The so-called "world" Championships in Finland charge every other country [and they asked me more than once - and on contracts sent to me it was over 1000 euros] for the privilege. I never made a penny from Air Guitar nor would want to pay for something that is essentially free. I never wanted the corporate involvement the "official" UK organizer has found with the biggest Uber-UK promoters.

Also I had and continue to insist [and most of the competitors who have done both formats agree] that the audience should decide the ultimate winner - not three judges.

So there we are... for most of 2006 i was quite depressed at the skulduggery and underhanded tactics of Air Guitar UK - which are so far away from the spirit of Air Guitar that i almost decided to quit.... anyway, Im not going to - and with friends like the Original Air Guitar organizer in the world Joe Ozier - who i believe really did start it all way back for one show in 1981 - I am going to organize a fresh alternative to the corporate boredom taking over what should be a free and democratic event - not a corporate institution with licence fees, judges and corporate backing - who needs it? The talent is free and so is Air.

2007 should become the Year of Free Air Guitar - free from corporate interests, free from fees, free from judges, and return back to a celebration of Air Guitar as it was supposed to be: Free .
