About Me

MyGen Profile Generator
delusive tension was founded in may 2002, when musician tino from the area of bremerhaven met singer michael from oldenburg. since 2003, we have been working on our first longplayer with the appropriate titel "patience".
there are different ways for us to create new songs. in most cases we do the composition together, with mainly tino running the computer and keyboards. harmonies and melodies we sort out together. michael often has some lyrics at hand that might fit the mood of the music, for which he creates a vocal melody matching the existing framework of music. then we file and form till the voice collapses and both are satisfied. however, there are exceptions to this process every now and then: sometimes tino composes on his own or has some own idea for the lyrics.
what helps is that we have a similar, but not the same taste in music. in extreme words: tino on his own would just do the noisy stuff with 150bpm; michael on his own would mean just the sad and cheesy ballads. one likes to exaggerate, the other sets it straight.
concerning the music style, people like to draw parallels. "seems like you listen to depeche mode a lot" was just one of many similar comments. that's the attractiveness of labels - there has to be one for delusive tension as well. of course we do synthpop, but we try to be as versatile as possible. there are influences from the 80s as well as from futurepop. but we also like experiments; we plan to have a song with an accoustic guitar on our album, and we like to cross the borders of genres. the greatness of synthpop however is, that it has no limits - you can create unique sounds for every single song, which has nothing to do with just "pressing buttons", as many people imagine about electronic music. it takes a lot of patience and concentration to find the right sounds, since we want the music to carry the emotion that drives us on, when we create a song.
of course we do have favourite bands in electronic music that shaped us. often we hear a great song, and then try to fathom how we could create this special sound, and so we learn from it. but there are no concrete idols, although there already are many well-known male synthpop duos out there. at the same time we have our favourites in other genres, e. g. tino likes to hear the german rock band die toten hosen or loves to dance to some hardstyle at the discotheque, while michael enjoys keane, eskobar or the cardigans. all in all, we can't deny influences, but try to find our own way through the jungle of music, while letting music in general inspire us.
inspiration for the lyrics comes from everywhere - real life with its relationships and friendships, as well as dreams and nightmares or books or films... anything as long as it is honest and reveals a little about who we are. otherwise it would be no fun to perform the songs. lyrics might express something that is hard to talk about. and they should invite people not only to dream away, but also to paint their own picture. it doesn't matter if their thoughts on the lyrics conform with ours.
