The Lily

I am tied to a tree in a jungle of mystery....

About Me

I live in LA. I work in the movie business. I raise more than my fair share of hell. When I don't have my nose in a book. And I am way too obsessed with LOST. Which means I am now suffering excruciating withdrawls that will not be remedied until Season 5 debuts in...::sob::... January of 2009.
What else do you really need to know?
This is old, but I only saw it for the first time recently. I love LOST and I love Imogen, so this just about the coolest LOST promo imaginable in my book:
And this, well, this is just funny:
And although it's not LOST, out of Fox fidelity, I'm posting the Ebert & Roeper Show (with Michael Phillips in for Ebert) review of SPEED RACER, cuz I'm just so darn glad that at least SOME critics have gotten it right:
(Mind you, "Time" and "Newsweek" magazines, among others, also gave it good reviews. Go see SPEED RACER, you will be glad you did.)
I've decided to (attempt to) regularly blog about LOST, so those posts will go live over in my blog. Schedule permitting, I'll post my comments the day after each new episode.
As for real life (as if my real life is all that real...):
The day job of late goes something like this:
..
What I Did Summer of 2006 (a little), coming soon to DVD(?):
What I Did Last Summer, coming to DVD May 20th!:
What I Did...oh gosh, it went on for YEARS...now on DVD (and more DVD to come mid-September 2008, including a new PIRATES short film!!):
You are a Balanced Babe!
You're direct and to the point, but never dramatic
You've got the confidence to speak your mind to anyone
But you leave the theatrics to Hollywood
Level headed and emotionally stable, no wonder everyone loves you How Much of a Drama Queen Are You?

My Interests

Going out and raising hell, staying home and sleeping in, good food (I love to cook and to eat), good wine, bookstores, fresh produce, turning up the music reeeeaaaal loud and dancing around the house in my underwear, big ideas, kissing, LACMA, dark chocolate, books books books books books, the Moon, good manners, Creed Fleurissimo, Perudo aka Liar's Dice aka Pirates Dice, crossword puzzles, nice stationery, French roast (brew it *strong*, baby), a man's forearms, swimming in the ocean, my bathrobe, true crime/serial killers (creepy, I know), Tracy and Hepburn, sushi, snow skiing, Grammar Girl, the great State of Arkansas, rainy days, sunny days, gay men, straight men, hmmm, pretty much all men, trivia games, the Dean & DeLuca catalog aka Food Porn, camping, Penhaligon's, dinner parties, Target, air conditioning, the American Flag, the so-bad-they're-good-lard-infused refried beans at El Coyote, the color orange, Little Tokyo, working out/running (I never thought I'd say that!), board games, the weekly massage, Larchmont Beauty, history, Whole Foods Market, pate, riding the train up the coast to Santa Barbara, Pucca and Garu, fine bed linens, White Chocolate Bread Pudding from the Palace Cafe in New Orleans (or prepared at home by my personal chef), the ugliest tennis shoes possible, going to Cafe Un Deux Trois in NYC after seeing a show, falling asleep outdoors on a sunny afternoon, black and white photography, Downtown L.A., hash browns, Diptyque Baies candles, *live* music, a meaningful glance, riding in taxis, Minnie and Zelda, a very dry vodka martini (or two), getting a bad case of the sexually-transmitted giggles.

I'm really not picky, either of these two will be just fine:

Also:
Everyone needs a hero.

Now *that's* a writer. Doris Lessing, you RULE.

How You Are In Love
You fall in love quickly and easily. And very often.

In relationships, you tend to be a bit selfish.

You tend to get very attached when you're with someone. You want to see your love all the time.

You love your partner unconditionally and don't try to make them change.

You are fickle and tend to fall out of love easily. You bounce from romance to romance. How Are You In Love?

Music:

I like a huge range of stuff. Even country. (Okay, old country. Starting with Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys.) And then there's Tomboy (the one from Denmark). What can we say about Tomboy? Wow. Love him. Plus: The Rolling Stones, Muse, The Doobie Brothers, Queen, Air Traffic, Elvis Costello, Elton John, Spacehog, Goldspot, Roy Orbison (who at one time lived in the other half of a duplex in Texas with my parents), Annie Lennox, The Police/Sting, Absens, The Clash, No Doubt (back before Gwen got boring and obvious...sorry Gwen, but you know it's true....), the *original* Gwen: Martha Davis of The Motels, Tom Petty, The Tender Box, The Beach Boys, ELO, The Carpenters, The English Beat (and who opened for them at the Key Club?...that's ri-ight...), Hall and Oates, Cold War Kids, Kenny Loggins (although I'm grossed out by his personal life), Burt Bacharach, Stryper (come on, admit it!), Boston, The Killers, Stevie Wonder, Jeff Buckley, Imogen Heap/Frou Frou, Earth, Wind and Fire, Billie Holiday, Prince, Leonard Bernstein, Wham! (I'm not kidding), Dolly Parton (I'm NOT KIDDING!), The Gap Band, Mika, The Artist Formerly Known As Lionel Richie. A lot of "world music" and vaguely meditative stuff like Anugama. A whole pile of classical stuff (nothing too Baroque), film scores, Broadway show stuff, and, of course, the recently deceased Orson. R.I.P.

Movies:

The Philadelphia Story, Lawrence of Arabia, The Sound of Music, Roman Holiday, Peking Opera Blues, The Sting, The Bridge On The River Kwai, Annie Hall, Jaws, The Apartment, On The Waterfront, Papillon, Stagecoach, Silkwood, La Dolce Vita, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Kill Bill 1 and 2, Network, Die Hard, Bullitt, The Poseidon Adventure (original), Gone With The Wind. Recent favorites: Junebug, Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont, The Constant Gardener, Cache, Stage Beauty, The Departed, The Last King of Scotland, This Is England, Juno, Once. Favorite documentaries: The Diamond Empire, The Farmer's Wife, The Journey Of Man, How William Shatner Changed The World.

Television:

Are there any other shows? I hadn't noticed....

Books:

I am above and beyond all else a reader and a writer, and always will be. So there just isn't room here to go in to this. We'll talk.
But do note that the greatest book ever is "My Dark Places" by James Ellroy.

Heroes:

My style heroes: The Hepburns, Katharine and Audrey. The other divine Audrey, Audrey Tautou. The other divine Kate/Cate, Cate Blanchett. Diane Keaton.
My literary heroes: William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, John Steinbeck, Eugene O'Neill, and James Ellroy.
My culinary heroes: Trader Joe. Alice Waters. And the folks at the Italian deli on Magnolia in Burbank, which I simply think of as Prosciutto Heaven.
My fine arts heroes: Leonardo da Vinci, John Singer Sargent, Gutzon Borglum, John Frank (the potter/sculptor), Diane Arbus, Sambo Mockbee, and Tim Hawkinson.
My spiritual hero: Jesus Christ.
My political hero: Elizabeth I.
My adventurer/explorer/discoverer/researcher heroes: Marie Curie, Ernest Shackleton, Edwin Hubbell, Vivian Thomas, Jane Goodall, Dr. Shannon Lucid (of NASA), Spencer Wells.
My all-around-showbiz-MVP hero: Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Sammy Davis Jr.
My technology heroes: Tim Berners-Lee and Steve Jobs. And whoever invented my kickass Canon digital camera that Jason gave me for Christmas. Wow.
My TV hero: Mister Rogers (R.I.P.).
