About Me

As the ship sank he grabbed our arm and led us quietly away from the Maheno. There was nothing that could be done, the seagulls had told us that already. "We have to get to dry land" he said, looking eastwards as he held our head above the water. We didn't have a compass but remembered thinking it was an Election year. After a time the toothless sea left us by the pier, underneath which everything seemed warm and fuzzy as the spume gently sucked at our ankles. The noise and danger had stopped now. It sank silently in the distance."Somebody should shoot us whilst we're happy" he said

Sounds Like: Traditionally, flotsam and jetsam are words that describe goods of potential value that have been thrown into the ocean. There is a technical difference between the two: jetsam has been voluntarily cast into the sea (jettisoned) by the crew of a ship, usually in order to lighten it in an emergency; while flotsam describes goods that are floating on the water without having been thrown in deliberately, often after a shipwreck.
