Schell's Beer

Are you ready for a beer with substance?

About Me

At Schell's, we believe that not all beer is created equal. And passionately so. Any beer with true substance must start with the very finest malts and hops. No exceptions. Both ingredients greatly affect the taste, aroma and color of the beer, and are carefully selected to match the style thats being brewed. From our legendary Pilsner to our award-winning Schell's FireBrick lager to our seasonal favorites, you can rest assured that what only takes you minutes to finish, took weeks to create and over 140 years to perfect. Original Series Original: A traditional, full flavored lager, styled after the same recipe that’s been in Schell's family for over 140 years. Light: Schell’s Light is a crisper, low-calorie version of Original that doesn’t sacrifice any of the taste. Dark: Darker because the barley is roasted longer, it's a flavorful lager that every beer lover will enjoy. Now available in clear bottles. Year Round Beers Firebrick: Roasted malts and imported hops give this Vienna-style amber lager a deliciously smooth malt taste backed by a light hop finish. Perfect for any occasion. Pilsner: A naturally Krausened, Old World Pilsner that is considered one of the best domestic examples of the traditional European style. Its rich, complex, all-malt body is accentuated by a distinct hop/malt aroma. A multiple award winner that’s worthy of its accolades. Pale Ale: A true German-style pale ale. Brewed with an all-malt blend of imported and domestic malts, three varieties of hops, and our special German alt yeast. Its pronounced bitterness and classic hop aroma make it a must for ale lovers. Caramel Bock: A rich, smooth-tasting beer with a light caramel flavor. Medium in body, dark copper in color, and lightly hopped to offer a hint of malt sweetness. Caramel Bock is now available year-round. Seasonal Beers Schmaltz's Alt: After a year hiatus, Schmaltz's Alt is back! Brewed in memory of Warren "Schmaltz" Marti, a fourth generation Schell and president of the brewery from 1965 to 1986. Octoberfest: This rich, smooth lager uses a perfect balance of Caramel, Pale, Cara Pilsner and Black malts to create the best Octoberfest beer of the season. Available September through October.Snowstorm: Just as we never know when the first winter storm will hit, we never know what Ted Marti will do here. Each year, Ted has a little fun changing the style and creating a very special beer for the season. Legendary Snowstorms of the past have included a cherry-vanilla porter, a mead/ale, a raspberry-chocolate brew and a Scottish ale. Available November through December.Doppel Bock: Lagered for a full 12 weeks, Schell's Doppel Bock has a dark amber hue, big malty body and long finish. An exceptional treat for any beer lover. Available January through March.Maifest: Brewed in the tradition of Munich’s finest Maibock beers, Schell's Maifest is a full bodied, small-batch lager made with a blend of three specialty malts, and imported and domestic hops. Available February, March, April, and into May.Hefeweizen: August Schell Hefe Weizen is an authentic Bavarian style wheat beer produced seasonally in May and June. We first brewed our Weizen in 1985 as a Kristal or clear wheat beer. In 2001 we decided to re-introduce it as an unfiltered Hefe Weizen. This unique beer gets its character from the high percentage of malted wheat we brew with and the special top fermenting German Weizen yeast we ferment with. A slight citric tang and a faint clove aroma gives this unfiltered weizen beer a gold medal taste. A perfect summer beverage with or without a slice of lemon.Zommerfest: A crisp, refreshing ale made in the Kölsch style. It uses a careful mixture of both wheat and barley malts that give it a rich golden color, frothy head and light malt taste. Available May through August. Grain Belt has joined the August Schell family of beers. The Schell’s Brewery is proud to announce that Grain Belt is safe and sound and still available. The August Schell Brewing Company purchased the Grain Belt brand and is currently producing Premium at the New Ulm brewery. The response has been overwhelming. Fans of Grain Belt from across the state have written and called to tell us how glad they are that Premium will be in good hands and remain a true Minnesota beer.
