Nell McLeod
Nell is a singer and guitarist from Cambridge, where she regularly plays local folk clubs and performs with other collaborators. Her influences are mainly rooted in English traditional music and she has used this to develop her own unique style as a performer and songwriter.
As a fiddle and melodeon player she has been performing with bands since the age of 12, and at 14 was short-listed for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award.
In 2004 she teamed up with New Roots Award winner Barry Watson, and the two began performing and recording as a duo. Her most recent collaboration has been with the Homity Ceilidh Band in which she performs regularly as a fiddle player.
'Nell and Barry are a Cambridge-based duo who play wholesome traditional music from The British Isles and beyond, as well as a few of their own tunes. Self confessed folk fanatics, the pair have only recently teamed up following success in other groups. Nell played at the semi finals of the prestigious BBC Young Folk Awards with her band No Comment, and Barry is a previous winner of the St Albans New Roots Competition and the Walton Folk Festival young performer award.
