Laura's Alternate Reality

About Me

My name is Laura and I love ancient cultures - their architecure, religions, folklore, rituals...everything. I especially love seeing how fragments of the past have carried themselves into the present. My newest focus is the Celtic and pre-Celtic cultures of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man and Brittany. I have a website where I keep a lot of what I learn (or at least eventually put - I have a notebook full of things to add at the moment) www.pretanicworld.comI love to sing...but hate doing it in front of people I love to dance..and REALLY hate doing that in front of peopleAlmost all of the people I am closest to are brilliant, diverse, creative, strong individuals. They are practically forces of nature unto themselves and I am grateful to have them in my life...

My Interests

EVERYTHING. except sports. seriously! I love learning anything new - but cannot stand televised sports. I find that too dull. I rather experience life than just watch others live it.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

You are The Star

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Star is one of the great cards of faith, dreams realised

The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench your thirst, with a guiding light to the future. They might say you're a dreamer, but you're not the only one.

What Historic Woman Are You?

Queen Medb
Queen Medb was an Irish queen, and what a queen! She ruled HER WAY or the HIGHWAY. When arguing with her husband over who had the greater fortune, she got so mad that she called a war on a neighboring kingdom to capture a bull so that she'd be wealthier than her husband. She was impulsive, temperamental, and passionate, just like you. But try and be a little calmer. Read more about this fascinating woman: http://www.angelfire.com/de/arkhamhaus/medb.html

I'd like to meet:

independent thinkers CURRENT MOON lunar phasesOdds are you are reading this because I have requested an add from you and you have no bleeping clue who I am.And yes, I am actively seeking MySpace Friends. No, not because I want the world to think I am SOOOOO amazing that half the computer literate universe is my friend. I may not be 99, but I'm too old for that crap.I love things like mythology, philosophy, theology, history, earth-based religions, etc and it is really hard for me to meet people who are into this too. So I am trying to network with people with similar tastes and see what interesting people I can meet along the way.So if I have requested an add, then you fit into at least one of 4 categories: 1) I know you in the real world and actually like you 2) I think we have common interests/viewpoints and would like to know you 3) I think you are hysterically funny 4) You have a band/shop/store with things I'm interested in and I will forget where to find you unless I include you as a friend

Music:

I have extremely ecclectic tastes. I love new age, international, trance, folk, top 40, 80's, rock, pop, jazz...

Movies:

My favorite genre of movie is a good horror film, with minimal gore, in which chthonic forces/ancient beliefs/supernatural entities come back from the mists of time to cause mayhem. What can I say, I'm a romantic at heart and would love to see magic and myth become reality.Ditto for sci-fi and fantasy movies.

Television:

Hex is my new fave - too bad BBC (America) cancelled the show so soon and is waiting until next summer to show the final episodes. It's Charmed meets Buffy meets Desperate Housewives as a series on HBO.Threshold has been resurrected by Sci Fi channel - and I adore it almost as much as Hex.With few exceptions I don't as much watch programs as these are the ones I tend to stop at if I am channel surfing: Bones, NUMB3RS, CSI (LV only), West Wing, Law and Order (all versions), Star Trek reruns when I can catch them (all versions), documentaries, Most Haunted, Cash in the Attic (BBC-America), Digging for the Truth, Discovery Atlas , Battlestar Galactica , Doctor Who, Heroes, The Black Donnellys, National Geographic Explorer

Books:

All of the Harry Potter series, a friend of mine has now gotten me hooked on Terry Pratchett/Discworld, DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons, Lamb, Good Omens, River God (and the titles which followed), Brother Cadfael Mysteries, Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels books, The Little Ice Age, Why Geography Matters, Hengeworld, Anne Rice (although I haven't read her work in a while), Jacqueline Girdner (New Age mysteries with a sense of humor), The Traveller, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, Wicked, An Eligible Bachelor (this was just a fun romp of a read), anything by Guy Gavriel Kay

Heroes:
