Short Mondays

Short films are now the “calling cards” used to exhibit talent but it’s difficult to get an audience to attend a screening when the time it takes to drive there exceeds the duration of the film (and therefore, the event). So we (Deirdre Murphy and Elise Rothberg) created SHORT MONDAYS, a monthly short film festival, to provide a venue for emerging (and established) filmmakers to screen their work as part of a block of five to seven films at a location that fosters interaction (i.e., when Sir Sean Connery attended, he was approachable because of the relaxed setting). We encourage our filmmakers to promote themselves and we invite producers, financiers, agents and board members from other festivals to the screenings. Because of the contacts they made at Short Mondays, directors have obtained their first jobs directing full length features, actors and writers have acquired representation and been offered other jobs, and cinematographers, sound men and first A.D.s have been hired on various projects. Word of mouth had caused us to outgrow our original venue and our previous location, the Pig ’N Whistle, but then we found our “home”: the wonderful venue Cinespace. Established actors who have lent their talent to films screened at Short Mondays include: Gary Oldman, John Stamos, Kevin Pollack Bruce Davison, Allison Janney, Clancy Brown, Christine Taylor, Richard T. Jones, Claudia Schiffer, Jason Lewis, Lori Singer, Robert Wagner and Lou Gossett Jr. When they've been in town, these actors have come out to support their filmmakers. We are aided in running the show by the fabulous staff at Cinespace, the invaluable assistance of Senior Board Member Robert Peters and the rest our Advisory Board, and Tonight Show and E!
