Detroit, MIFrom 7 foot iron figures to jewelry, artist Tim Burke gives new life to the bits of cast off history he salvages. A scavenger since childhood, Burke scours the city for hidden treasure which he recreates into fanciful and provocative works of art. I didnt just go see a therapist i moved in with him for five years he got me into art. he was my DAD'S therapist also got him into art.ive lived all over this city from clark park area to the cass corridor there used to be a carrage house on cass and canfield my old man had it as his studio for five years when he moved i stayed there for a little while. I lived in the rectory of st. john's st.luke's behind the atlas building on gratiot and russellfor five years ilved at sobriety house on west grand blvd. and dexter as a live in house manager for 8 years, when the counselors went home i had to keep the peace in the house there were three live in monitors. they let me have the garage for my art.i helped open the dualdiagnosis substance abuse over night program at brighton hospital i was the live in monitor there for a year. so ive spent 14 years in institutions working on myself and sharing with others in recovery about recovery. i aint no saint i do the best i can. like father dowling once said if he gets to heaven it will be because he was backing away from hell same here i usualy dont correct myself until i hit a wall with some shit.Large, surreal sculptures, candlesticks, tables and more - all Burke's creations begin with pieces of salvaged metal, wood, tile or glass that speaks to him.
