I am now living in Albany, NY

About Me

My name is Dennis and am a Tlingit Indian from Juneau, Alaska. My parents moved to Anchorage when I was a young boy, so never grew up around my culture. I stayed in Anchorage most of my life leaving for different parts of country. I have a son who has children of his own making me a grandpa...too bad I never grow up. My son is still living in Anchorage from what I have heard. I met a woman online in a Native American chatroom who later became my wife. We have been living Albany, New York close to seven years now. We were married February 10, 2007 and will have to say I know in my heart I have made the right decision. There have been some positive changes taking place in my life and my wife is the one I need to thank. My life went from spiritual void to spiritually charged. I make it my daily prayer to make me a better man. My life has been blessed with a woman whom I know will always be there for me. I have never had the opportunity to grow spiritually. I know in my heart and soul that good times with my wife lay ahead of us. I have always been optomistic when it comes to events in my life. I always look at the big picture. I don't believe in luck or chance, but do believe in destiny. I know I am headed in the right direction and I know in my heart I am going to do everything I can to go forward.

My Interests

I would have to say right now my interests would be genealogy, drawing, and my culture. These three are very close since I am researching my culture and genealogy, and my drawings have a Tlingit theme. It is getting close to four years of research when it comes to genealogy and culture. We have learned a lot from the studies and even made a couple of discoveries ourselves. I have found great great grandparents in books and census records. It is my wife that is the expert in research though. I have been drawing since I was a young boy, but it was only as a hobby. I am now working on putting together a portfolio and resume to start selling my drawings. It is one of my long-term goals to start a small business selling my artwork. We like to travel when we get the chance and will share other experiences and travels we have had. Part of the culture I did embrace was being part of a Tlingit dance group. The experiences were enriching to my life and wouldn't trade a moment of it. I pray I get the chance to be part of a group one day before I am too old to enjoy it. I have some videos of the Tlingit and Haida Dancers of Anchorage performing some songs. I am also going to post some drawings I have done.A DRAWING OF A TOTEM POLE IN SITKA

I'd like to meet:

I would like to meet old and new friends here at myspace. I like meeting people who are sincere and honest. I have made some great friends online...like my wife. I like the fact that I have the opportunity to get back in touch with people I lost because of my move to New York State. I get the privilege of making new friends as well. I like the fact that I get to meet people from my parents' home village. I also get the chance to meet others that are family. My father told me that if you make one good friend a year then you are doing good. I can't wait to catch up with family and friends who went before us.A SLIDESHOW OF OUR PIX Myspace Contact Tables

Music:

My taste in music remains constant just keep making new additions to the collection these days. I bought Joan Jett and the Blackhearts first album, then last year I had the opportunity to see them in concert. I have pix of when they performed here. They are located in my pix. I still buy Pink Floyd and Kiss albums. I have been adding to our music dvd collection as well. I bought the "Adventures of Mimi," and the "Wall, the 25th Anniversary." Some additions to the collection include Native American artists. We have seen Robert Mirabal a couple of times and Joanne Shenandoah. One thing that has always touched my soul were the drumbeats and songs of our people. I was part of a dance group for ten years and have a lot of vivid memories of our group. I do miss the dance group since they always had the best drummers around. We still attend powwows around here, so get to feel the drum again. I have added a videos of Alicia Keys and one made by Jana to my profile...it will go full screen with a right click. Alicia Keys No One .. Movies:

I have always liked movies using special effects so was always into action and science fiction movies. Kingdom of Heaven, The Shining(both big screen and television versions), all of the movies made of Stephen King novels, all the Star Wars, all three of The Lord of the Ring movies, and a lot of movies that have Native Ameican actors and actresses. I have recorded a lot of Native movies. I had the opportunity to meet Irene Bedard, the voice of Pocahantas, and I met Will Sampson, "Ten Bears" from "Outlaw Josey Wales." When I was still part of the "Tlingit and Haida Dancers of Anchorage," our group was paid to be extras for a movie released at the Sundance Film Festival.

Television:

My all time fave is the new Battlestar Galactica series and I like a lot of sci-fi shows. Some others that I really like are Voyager, Deep Space Nine, Star Trek Next Generation, CSI, Law and Order, Monk, Dead Zone, and the Closer. I like to watch the History channel, Scifi Channel, and the Military Channel. One of the things that I enjoy about NY is the fact that they have digital cable to where I am able to watch and listen to all channels in digital format. I have access to movie channels, on demand, and all the music channels. The new edition to my viewing pleasure is a 37 inch hdtv. Discovery Channel in high definition is something to be seen. We have also added a PS3 to the tv so can now play games and movies on it. The PS3 has a blu-ray player on it as well.

Books:

"Will The Time Ever Come? by Andrew Hope III and Thomas Thrnton, "The Story of a Tlingit Community" by Frederica DeLaguna, "Haa Kusteeyi,Haa Shuka, and Haa Tuwunaagu Yis." by Richard and Nora Marks Dauenhauer, "Memory Eternal, and Symbolic Immortality.

Heroes:

I would have to say that I have some heroes in my life and they would have to be my parents and my fiancee. My parents were both involved with Native politics and both fought for our rights. My parents were diligent in all the work they did and their fight was for me, their grandson, and their great grandson. They were selfless in all their work and they never stopped their battles. My fiancee helped me to change my life for the better and continues to do so. My fiancee continues to help me each day by believing in me and supporting me in all I face. These three are my heroes because they never stopped believing in me despite all of my failures. They love and loved me for who I am.
