I have a passion for helping girls realize their potential through messages of empowerment. I am currently writing a book on "Girls and Self-Esteem" which will help girls celebrate their uniqueness and confront the negative messages that society presents them on a daily basis. I am also honored to be the spokesperson for the Los Angeles County "Share Your Heart, Share Your Home" program which helps move kids from the foster care system into loving, caring homes. I have been a journalist for most of my professional career and I have met many famous people - from Presidents to popstars. If I could dream and meet someone from the past, it would be my mom and dad as their younger selves. I would love to peek at them as kids, as teenagers - long before I was ever in the picture. It would be fun to see them living at home with their parents, going to parties, out on dates, and going to school. It would be fun to see if I was anything like them growing up!
Since I'm from the Motor City, I am a very much partial to the Motown Sound. I love 'Old School' or what we also like to call "Grown Folks Music". Right now, I am listening to Alicia Keys' "As I Am" which is pretty incredible.
There are a few movies that I can watch over and over again. "The Color Purple" is one because it is so beautifully shot and the story of love is universal. When I am in the mood for something a little more edgy, I can always pop in "Pulp Fiction". "Forest Gump" is also one of my favorites along with "Shawshank Redemption". And ANY Alfred Hitchcock movie ANY time!

Right now, my total guilty pleasure is "Dirty, Sexy Money". Here's what I have TiVo'ed right now: Oprah, Joel Olsteen, and Desperate Housewives. Because of my news background, I regularly tune into CNN, MSNBC, and the morning and evening news programs. And please call me when an original episode of the Twilight Zone is on!
It's probably, "God Calling" which my mom turned me onto. It is a series of daily readings that were inspired by two women who called themselves "Listeners" to God's word. It has been extremely inspirational in my life. When I was a child, my favorite book was, "The Day That Monday Ran Away". The illustrations are extraordinarily beautiful. I have all the books by my friend, Lolita Files - my favorite of hers is "Scenes From A Sista". A book I love to delve into when I have friends over is, "The Book of Questions". It's one that will give you great insight to your own personality and values.
I come from a family of strong, Black women so, my heroes are my mom and my grandmothers.
And my dad, who can always make me laugh when I need a pick-me-up!
