My Interests

I'm The Ornament Gal...a gal who sells all sorts of pretty ornaments. If you think about it ornaments aren't just for Christmas trees. I like to think of clothes as ornaments. They are pretty things that you put on yourself for decoration and self expression. I'm not partial to any one era of clothing. I bring home the things that speak to me. Far too many pieces of clothing have spoken to me lately.

I'm interested in vintage clothing, specifically vintage lingerie. I'm currently creating a style guide for Olga nightgowns. You'll find it in my blog. I'm also interested in sewing, design, costume jewelry, making jewelry, beading, crochet, corsets, vintage slips, clothing from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s. I tend to acquire lots of prom dresses, evening gowns, wedding dresses, bridal and prom jewelry. I love weddings. And the list continues reading, photography, old dishes, fiction writing, technical writing, Vanity Fair slips and nightgowns, Paint Shop, and photo editing.

All of these ecclectic interests and bits of knowledge get used in my online store, The Ornament Gal .

Here are some of the places that I enjoy browsing and looking at all the pretty things. Most of them won't fit me. Ok, most of them wouldn't have fit me when I was in high school. I totally understand the 50s housewife with the martini in hand. If I had to squish even my beanpole body into all those foundation garments, I'd need a drink too! Here are some of my favorite places to window shop.

Did I mention that I'm a Firefly/Serenity fan? Oh yeah...bigtime.

Yes, behind all the pinups, clothing and patterns is a geek, a nerd, a dreamer who loves space, science fiction, and all that could be. Now wouldn't it be great to just have your vintage clothing store on a space ship and travel from place to place with your store? A whole universe of customers just waiting for you to drop into their port.

Ah the things that could be if only we were still pushing forward with the space race. Yes, I'm waxing a little nostalgic about the 50s and all sudden burst of technology that catapulted us forward. I smile when I think about those 'space age' kitchens and all the fun gadgets.

Sculpture, Architecture and Vintage Dresses

I haven't written in a while. So tonight I think I'll just let my brain wander around while I type. Who knows, maybe something interesting will find it's way into the blog. I've been reading a lot of...

Pockets

There's something about seeing your cell phone hit the sand and be rolled around by a wave that really makes you appreciate pockets. I always love it when someone says, "You dropped something." just ...

Beaches and Kites and Clamdiggers

I took a much needed little trip to the beach. Nothing long. Nothing expensive. Just a day away from the business. Besides, kids love the beach. So after a quick drive to the beach, I unpack while th...
