A brand nu sound has appareared these last months to enlight the dancefloors of the planet. The aforementioned hailing from Nutropic, a young Strasbourg based collective who, with just a small hand of 12 inches and remixes, has come to reach fans, not only in his own country (France), but also in all parts of Europe, from Scandinavia to the sunny shores of Mediterranean See, and even much further, should it be in Australia or New-Zealand... This said, adding the fact that youll find brazilian influences twisted with jazz and funk elements in their music shouldnt be a surprise, considering the pseudonym that is theirs...Having the leading roles under this guise are two people. Luc Tharin, aka DJ Link and Amar Kabouche, also known under the Jazzamar avatar. The first ofem being the master of the rhythms and the machines. The second purveying the melodies, being not only a fully trained flutist raised with the sounds of Yusef Lateef and Herbie Mann, but also an enormous vinyl collector. This is how theyll get to know each other in the mid 90s, seing Luc in search of an ol jazz tune to sample that led him to meet Amar. A few hours spent to deep conversations with records listening would eventually lead to their association, soon to be followed by the basic lines of Yusef thats featured on their first 12 inch. The newly formed duet would do their first gigs, during memorable gigs, when samba/jazz, hip hop, ragga, breakbeat, jungle, house and techno were melt to make one, this with the participation of live musicians. No one had never heard of this in Strasbourg. A style was born. From gigs to production, theres only one step that the pair would reach with the arrival of the new millennium ; Luc spending hours and hours to get the best out of the matrix, his partner providing loops from ancient tresures found in his record collection, with the help of trombonist, Pascal Beck, in charge of the brass arrangements. "Hybrid Tempoz", the title of their first EP (FTP Records) resumes perfectly what they are into in terms of achivement, reaching the hearts and soul of many DJs including Gilles Peterson and Rainer Trby who, soon after, would include one of their compositions in his famous Glcklich compilations series on Compost. They then make their debut for Comet Records with a single - "Mental Appetizer/Pascalitos Theme" - that brings them into the universe of remix, relifting the first single to be extracted from Tony Allens last album ("Every Season") before doing the same recently for Elie Goulart and Brazilian songstress, Fernanda Porto. Their aim today ? Keep on rockin the dancefloors of the globe...
