About Me

Ringo - Photo Sharing Made Easy
A writer, of sorts (can't afford to give up the day job just yet). I've had stories and flashes published online in:
Eclectica Smokelong Quarterly WordRiot Espresso Fiction Smokebox Sussurus Chick Flicks
and in print:
QWF magazine (US) Etchings magazine - Ilura Press (AUS) Aesthetica magazine (UK) Woman's Own magazine (UK) My Weekly magazine (UK) Take a Break (UK) Your Messages anthology (BlueChrome Publishing) Pastoral Pastimes anthology (Skrev Press)
I've also won a few short story competitions (Dark Tales, Bank Street Writers, Helen Mullin Awards) and have been placed or shortlisted in many others (including Runner up in Woman's Own magazine short story competition 2006).
I completed my first novel - a supernatural romantic-comedy - earlier this year and am currently looking for an agent. While I wait to hear back I'm writing novel #2 (and more short stories!).
Massive music fan and have been to about 10 gigs this year. I've got wide-ranging taste but it mostly falls into the indie/alternative/rock/acoustic/folk/jazz genres. Bands are free to add me but if I don't actually LIKE your music I won't add you (please no hip-hop, R&B, house, garage etc) Love film, theatre and comedy.
Live in Brighton, UK (have done for about 8 years now) and my flat has a view of the sea (if I stand on tiptoes and squint) but now work in London 3x a week (hooray for working from home the rest of the time).
When I'm not writing I can generally be found taking photos for the Heaven's Heathens (a wonderfully talented London-based band. Check them out in my friend's section).

My Interests

Writing, writing, writing. Other than that I while away the hours listening to music, watching films, writing short stories & flash fiction (ah, that'll be writing again) going to the theatre, eating chocolate, watching TV, people watching and sleeping. I have been known to go canoeing, white water rafting, cycling, trekking and running but generally I do love just sitting on my arse.I will get off my arse to go to gigs however. I think I went to 12 gigs last year - Pearl Jam, Van Morrisson, Tracy Chapman, Kings of Leon, Tom McRae and Eels amongst them.

I'd like to meet:

Margaret Atwood (oh wait - I have already. Okay, so a book signing probably doesn't count). Okay, Stephen Fry then. I adore the man (though would probably go completely catatonic if I were ever in his presence).

I'd also REALLY love to meet Charlie Kaufman (screenwriter). 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', 'Being John Malkovich' and 'Adaptation' - great films, fantastically imaginative. I'd love to write a film script one day but I haven't got the first idea where to start (another thing to add to my 'must do' list).

Famous people aside I'd like to meet/add other creative people. Musicians, actors, poets, writers - particularly writers. And if you're a writer who's heard of an anthology calling for short story submissions DEFINITELY get in touch! (I always need homes for my stories).

Music:

Heaven's Heathens, Ryan Adams, Martha Wainwright, The Cure, The Smiths, Pearl Jam, Jeff Buckley, Counting Crows, Damien Rice, Joni Mitchell, Steve Reynolds, Nirvana, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead, Alison Moyet, Snow Patrol, REM, PJ Harvey, Pulp, Graham Coxon, Fiona Apple, Eels, Nick Cave, Nina Simone, Nat King Cole, Tracy Chapman, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Tom Mcrae, The Smashing Pumpkins, Portishead/Beth Gibbons, Lucky Jim, Muse, Nick Drake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rollins Band, Suede, SnowPatrol, Hole, Anthony and the Johnsons, Morrissey, Harry Nilsson, The Killers, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald, Graham Coxon, Madeleine Peyroux, Van Morrisson, Muse, Nick Drake, Richard Hawley, The Beatles, The Carpenters

Movies:

Leaving Las Vegas, The English Patient, Sylvia, The Hours, Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dog Day Afternoon, Brokeback Mountain, Harvey, Walk the Line, Secretary, The Pianist, High Fidelity, Life is Beautiful, Being John Malkovich, Dangerous Liaisons, Amelie, Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption, Whale Rider, Educating Rita, Rain Man, Finding Neverland

Television:

Lost, 24, Heroes, The 4400, Desperate Housewives, The Secret Life of Us (why isn't it being shown any more, why?), This Life (it's coming back - for one off special - hooray), Dr Who, Documentaries, Futurama, Spongebob SquarePants, Films and...ehr...just the occasional bit of reality TV (ha!)

Books:

1984, Brave New World, After You'd Gone, Girlfriend in a Coma, Steppenwolf, anything by Margaret Atwood

Heroes:

Why the Heaven's Heathens of course. Mwah ha ha!
