Born and raised in South London, Efeks was introduced to hip hop by his older brother through artists such as Slick Rick, Dougie Fresh, Public Enemy, 3rd Base & Big Daddy Kane.
After buying 'Momma Said Knock You Out' by LL Cool J, Efeks started to develop a passion for rhyming, memorising classic verses and reciting them in the confines of his 'lab' (his bedroom). This passion grew and in 1994 (hip hop's second 'Golden Era'), seminal albums such as Nas' 'Illmatic' and O.C.'s 'Word... Life' served as a catalyst for Efeks to begin penning his own lyrics.
These lyrics were only ever shared with his friend and former rhyme partner in school, until in 1997, while DJing at a friends house party he accepted an invitation to grab the mic, and needless to say, the following day he was the topic of conversation at college for the RIGHT reasons.
This reaction prompted him to start taking the ART of emceeing more seriously and after recording several tracks in his friend's home studio he entered a Choice FM talent competition. This, unfortunately was the budding emcee's first taste of disappointment. Nerves got the better of him, and after forgetting his lyrics, he was subsequently 'flushed' on live radio!
However, remaining resolute, he returned in 2002 entering '60 Seconds of Fame', on the aforementioned radio station. This time he was victorious, winning four successive weeks in a row which earned him a live spot on DJ 279's 'Friday Nite Flavas' show.
This led to Efeks winning several open mic contests and recording a string of material which was well received by such DJ's as: 279 (Choice FM), Big Ted & Shorty Blitz (Kiss 100) and Ras Kwame (1 Xtra).
After exploring the solo route, and tired of long talkers and time wasters, he was introduced to a like-minded producer named Steady, by a mutual friend. Immediately, the pair's chemistry formed a formidable partnership, and after a plethora of material was recorded, including two E.P.'s (The Wasted Talent E.P. & Running Man E.P.), and two full length L.P.'s (as yet unreleased), 'Prose' was conceived.
Along with many Prose projects in development, Efeks has recently recorded with Funky DL and Muzik-ED supremo Keith Lawrence and also has plans to work with various other leading UK artists... Watch this space!
