This Neapolitan indie rock-folk opus came to life when, on a sunny day in October '99, Paolo Messere picked up the phone and called every single innovative musician who might follow him into a hard, dreamlike, new experience where the first chords of the project would be born by accident.
Paolo is no stranger to experimentation. In 1999, his previous group, Silken Barb, one of the most acclaimed Neapolitan bands, produced its first CD under the label Freeland. (The group appears in the highly-publicized book Post Rock by E. Cilia and S.I. Bianchi.) In 2000, Paolo created the first Blessed Child Opera CD, released only in Europe, as a mainly 'post folk-rock' enterprise born out of his renewed interest in traditional American songwriting. Also that year, he had the pleasure to meet Amaury Cambuzat, leader of the well-known French band Ulan Bator, and joined them improvising guitar, keyboards, and background vocals during the Ego Echo album tours. This led to their further collaboration in 2002 with Amaury as the dynamic supervisor for the first Blessed Child Opera CD released in the United States under the American label Loud Dust Recordings. Amaury's contribution to the project lent a unique atmosphere of good will and creative fun. Today, thanks to the release of this album, Blessed Child Opera is receiving great reviews from Italian and American magazines and has also had the pleasure to play various concerts alongside Sodastream, Calla and Perturbazione
+3The band members are:
Paolo Messere: lead vocals, acoustic & electric guitars (Silken Barb, Ulan Bator)
Francesco Candia: guitar & keyboards (formerly of Trees, Candya)
Michele Santoro: bass,(formerly of R.U.A.)
Davide Fusco: drums (formerly of Trees, Sleepless, Idiot Boy, Candya)Many guests from classical and contemporary music also appear in the new album: Carmen DOnofrio, soprano, (formerly singer of Argine); Marco Pezzenati, first percussionist, Giovanni Giugliano, double-bass player and Fabio Centurioni, cellist, all three from the Teatro San Carlo Orchestra of Naples.
The new line up of Blessed Child Opera has changed a good deal during 2005 and their music is now more aligned with classic notions of rock than previously. Not easy to describe, the media have labelled Blessed Child Opera as "the Italian representatives of the new acoustic scene", intimate and relaxing at first, but much more intense and direct than their earlier productions. All tracks were recorded in Naples but written in English, no need to explain why. Third album will be released in September 2006 through Delta/
CNI. The band is now recording the album at the Seahorse Recording Studio in
Naples. Additional musician from the Teatro San Carlo Orchestra of Naples will
enrich the sound of B.C.O.Paolo/Davide
