Brooklyn's BARC Shelter

About Me

Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition, AKA BARC, has been finding homes for rescued New York City dogs, cats and the occasional bunny for almost 20 years. Located in Williamsburg, BARC is famous for it's Dog Parade and Show that takes over Bedford Avenue and McCarren Park for a day every summer, and it's shabby chic Cat Loft where visitors can play with the cats and kittens up for adoption. Many regular visitors take advantage of BARC's volunteer dog-walking program, fun for canine and human alike! Visit BARC on the web, go to the BARC Homepage , and check out the BARC Blog HERE

There's a new way to search on the web and help BARC Shelter at the same time. It's called Good Search and all you have to do is click! BARC is already registered, so just type in the "I'm Supporting" box: BARC Brooklyn, and it comes right up. For each search the shelter earns a penny. Didn't your grandmother always tell you those pennies add up?

Music:

I am these cuties' foster mom and would like to introduce two of the sweetest, cutest kittens EVER! Gitano, left, and Horatio, on the right, are BARC kittens, but have been with me since they were about 7 days old. They were found abandoned on the hot concrete outside a bodega in Bushwick, Brooklyn, eyes still closed with no mother. There was a "string" wrapped around Horatio's right rear leg that was probably his mother's umbilical cord. He lost his foot, and though there has been great improvement, his doesn't stand or walk straight and tall. If you look closely at the vidoe you'll see where he's slightly crouching and sometimes walks on three legs. I call it his "Groucho" walk, LOL! They have been a delight to bottle raise and care for, but it's time for them to go to a forever home and continue their charmed lives. They must be adopted together. The brothers compliment each other beautifully and though the play can get rough, they always end up cuddled together. Do not contact BARC as I will be doing the initial screening myself. If it's little stricter than usual, I think you'll appreciate how much time and love has been invested in Horatio and Gitano's care and my concern for placing them in the very best home! Contact me via email: [email protected] More photos of the two "Blondies" from Bushwick on flickr, CLICK HERE For a google video of Horatio, CLICK HERE
