About Me

Andy Jackson (JFunc) started out on the long road to becoming a professional Audio Engineer at the tender age of 11. He was never happy with something just working - he wanted to know HOW. This led to many a cassette recorder being dismatled and rebuilt, to satisfy his curiosity.
One day at school, a guy from the local music store performed a demo on a basic mixer, a Roland CR-78 and a Yamaha DX7. This really made its mark. He was hooked, and wanted to be nothing but 'the guy behind the board'.
at 11: Gets the back off a cassette recorder & recieves first electric shock! (and trips the house electricity supply in the process!)
at 18: Trains as an Architectural Technician, but gets itchy feet. Wants to get more 'audio technical'.
at 20: Serves for 3 years in the RAF as Radar / Telecomms Engineer. Works on Watchman Precision Approach, CR-62 & AE3D Radars, MX2 Circuit Switch and a host of other fiendish gadgetry. Then ends up in RAF Rudloe Manor. 250ft undergroud. Working on some sneaky beaky type equipment. Shhh. Don't tell anyone... Bummer. Still tweaks tunes on a Korg O1/Wfd, Korg N3, Korg M1, Akai S2800...
at 23: Returns to Glasgow & back to Architecture for a further 4 years. Acoustics & Recording Studio Design becomes interesting...
Andy graduated with merit from the SAE's much respected Audio Engineering Diploma, at it's Glasgow campus. He didn't stop there! Moving on to the Glasgow Caledonian University's Audio Technology with Electronics course, he graduated with a degree, with Distinction. He also won the IIE Best Student Award for Outstanding Achievement on the course. While still studying for his finals, Andy was given the honour of lecturing the part-time Audio Engineering Diploma course students at SAE Glasgow.
He now lectures the Electronic Music Production course, unlocking the potential for people to create their own tunes with the aid of machines...
At the SAE Glasgow campus, Andy fully installed their 36 Frame Neve VR console, along with the Studer A820 2" analog tape machine, Pro Tools HD1 system, and various outboard gear. He wired (and also helped to design) the new Surround Sound capable Studio 4, which houses the expanded Pro Control surface & Pro Tools HD2 system.
Andy has worked as the Front Of House Engineer (and Tour Technician) with Horse. Check her out on www.randan.org. He has also had the priviledge to work with some of the finest Glasgow bands: Ernest, The Vagabonds, The Nut Bros. to name a few.
Andy has remixed for Futuro (www.wearefuturo.com), Ernest (www.ernestmusic.com) and others.
Andy owes much of his success to Nett. She's been a driving force, always urging Andy to go further. She's also a great mix critic, and tells it like it is!!
