Dance/Hip-Hop music fan since 1990
First big tune bought was Outlander Vamp, this led to Borg becoming a fan of R&S records. Also loved the hardcore sounds coming from Rising High Records. The House Is Mine by The Hypnotist was an early fave and still is.This was the sound being played at the clubs and raves of the time and Borg became an avid record collector.
At this time Borg could not afford turntables so he improvised by making pause tapes on a midi hifi. In fact he became pretty good at this, but did not realise that what he was doing had been done years before by Hip-Hop fans, it just seemed a natural and fun thing to do.
Another experiment was trying to mix audio from War of the Worlds with an Aphex Twin tune from Selected Ambient Works by playing a video tape of War of the Worlds on a TV on one side of the room while playing Aphex Twin on the hifi at the other side and recording the sound on a Sharp double tape deck placed on the bed in the middle of the room. As you would expect the result was far from desirable.Borg carried on collecting records and learned to mix on a friend’s decks. It was not until 1994 when he heard Dave Clarke on Pete Tongs Essential Mix and tracked down some of the tunes on Chicago’s Relief label which featured in the mix that he decided that his collection really deserved to be played on turntables of his own.Endless hours of practice meant that he became excellent on the wheels of steel and could mix many styles of music. Now he has decided to put his energies into learning about and creating music inspired by the styles he has been a fan of all these years.Did I mention he also has a penchant for Dub Reggae??
