Stoner Kings are a band seemingly that demand a reaction based their moniker alone. Proving to be highly provoking to some and balls-out entertaining to others, these heavy rocking Finns fronted by Canadian pro wrestler StarBuck are controversial, outspoken and aggressive.
Toting the hard rock flare and musical sensibilities of the 70's and 80's, these bastard sons of Scandinavia have been rousing the roost since late 2000. Having released two albums to date - debut Brimstone Blues from 2002 and Fuck The World from 2006 - Stoner Kings have endured many a tumult and turmoil in their musical career. From line-up changes to industry backlash to blatant blacklisting, this band has earned their slot in the heavy music underground through hard work and tireless persistence in the face of adversity.
While Brimstone Blues drew rave reviews comparing Stoner Kings in part to classic G'n'R in spirit on many an occasion (mostly due to vocalist StarBuck's interpretation and approach), the much darker and more metallic Fuck The World received a considerable amount of powerful, mixed reviews. While Finnish medias largely embraced the daring and provocative sophmore outing, various international medias were split down the middle. Some antagonists clearly felt the hostility of the album title, seemingly on a personal level, and took it as an opportunity to trash the band in select press. Yet the majority of the professional music medias worldwide gave Fuck The World - with its added firepower in the form of guest appearances from members of Children Of Bodom, Nightwish and Thunderstone - stellar and positive reviews.
Come 2007, due to internal restlessness and artistic differences, out of sheer necessity StarBuck parts ways with his FTW line-up and sets out to find a new group of capable pros with the tools to succeed. Stoner Kings v.2007 sees StarBuck's old comrade from his time in the group Monsterbore (2003), guitarist Petteri Hirvanen - a legendary cult figure and mentor to many of today's top Finnish metal guitarists - along with bassist Rude and drummer Grandy round out the quartet. With new material under work and a revamped, excited spirit driving them on, Stoner Kings is back and preparing to launch a new, reborn assault on the unsuspecting populace of Planet Earth in short measure.
Uncompromising, undaunted and untamed, Stoner Kings show themselves to be rebels with a cause. One thing is for sure, these guys aren't slowing down anytime soon!
