Introducing Fredy V, singer, songwriter and citizen of the world that is bringing an unseen versatility to modern music. In an industry that boxes its artists into one genre, Fredy sticks out due to his ability to make himself and others feel at home. Through lyrical and musical composition, Fredy is bridging the gaps between cultures and styles all around the world. Originally from Senegal and Cape Verde, born and raised in Washington DC and now living in Montreal, Fredy V is an artist as diverse as his background. Since childhood, Fredy grew up in a musical household with two older siblings that are singers/musicians, and parents that are music fanatics. After his older brother discovered that he could harmonize at the age of 11, Fredy began his career in performing arts. This included choirs, orchestras, musical productions, theater, and playing bass while singing lead in his high school band. In August 2000, Fredy moved to Montreal and zoned in on his own unique artistic style. After a couple years of performing on the college and university scene including orientations, concerts and galas, Fredy made a crucial link with one of Montreal’s strongest underground movements: the Kalmunity Vibe Collective. Kalmunity is a large group of musicians, vocalists and other artists from Montreal and abroad that hold weekly performances in the city based on “live organic improv”. Since then, he has been making his mark in Montreal as a versatile and dynamic performer among some of Montreal’s finest singers, musicians, mcs and poets. In the same set you can catch Fredy V chanting on the toughest rhythms as well as soulfully vocalizing on funk, rhythm and blues, and roots music. Whether it’s on bass, guitar or vocals, performing with the vibe collective has put Fredy V on the map. Over the years, Fredy has performed in hundreds of concerts and festivals in numerous cities including Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Windsor, Carleton, Washington DC and Dakar (Senegal). Such performances include Fredy sharing the stage with notable international acts like francophone R&B singer Gage, Senegalese superstar Youssou N’dour, French hip hop artist Oxmo Puccino, French hip hop group Le 3eme Oeil, and U.K soul legend Omar. Presently, Fredy V is working on his debut solo album, “The Last Born Son”. This highly anticipated album is shaping to be a varied approach of Fredy’s vocal, musical and lyrical styles. You can look forward to a fresh mix of songs that are rooted in but not limited to soul, reggae, hip hop and rock. Fredy’s warm and gritty voice is a guide for his listeners through this colorful voyage. Fredy’s lyrics relate with any audience. He touches on his childhood and adult experiences as well as issues regarding city life, poverty, youth, knowledge of self, community development, cultural roots, relationships and love of life with allusions to the divine. This album is sure to be refreshing to the ears of children and parents alike. Catch Fredy V performing with his live ensemble: Black Soil: a band and a production team that consists of some of Kalmunity’s most accomplished instrumentalists including drummer and founder, Jahsun. Fredy V’s dynamic performances in combination with this heavy weight band is known around Montreal as a top notch, entertaining and even touching show with all the elements of mass appeal. Genuine and honest, Fredy V’s mission is to connect with all possible listeners. In a time where music is constricted, Fredy V comes like a breath of fresh air based on the diverse concept of “people music”.
