Somethin's Missing - guitar solo
Add to My Profile | More VideosKim Jade Fry, bassist/vocalist/songwriter originally out of New York - I was born into a musical family - my dad is a bassist and mom a singer...I relocated to L.A. one year ago. Ive been gigging in cover and original bands since I was 18. I started out playing by ear, mostly heavy metal & hard rock in South Florida (moved down there after high school) But after a while I started to feel unfulfilled, so I went down to Miami to enroll in music school. Surprisingly, I found myself getting completely into Blues, Motown, Funk and Soul. I was so passionate about it..I wanted to sing like Etta James and play bass like James Jamerson ha (and I guess Im still trying). So, I took my new passion and formed my own blues band. I went out and booked some gigs, hired the best guys to play with me, and started working. After a while, I was working regularly with my own band and getting called to play with several other blues bands in the area. I took it to another level and started doing some gigs with some Latino friends of mine from school. They introduced me to Brazilian and Latin music but it was the Brazilian funk/samba stuff that really blew me away. You wont really hear those influences in my music, but it definitely opened my mind up.A few years ago I really felt like I needed to start writing and try to find my own sound. After a couple of years of working on my own and collaborating with different producers in Florida and Virginia (my stop between, i guess...) I finally moved up to New York and was intruduced by my then keyboard player, Anthony Robustelli, to his friend Nunzio Signore, guitarist and producer. To make a long story short, Anthony brought Nunz to a rehearsal, and it only took me a couple of minutes to realize that this was the guy that I wanted to work with...As soon as we started writing together, the songs and the sound just flowed; we would get together for a couple of hours and write a song just like that. And Im happy that Ive gotten back to my rock and roll roots and you can definitely hear the soul influences in my bass playing and the vocals on this CD. I have a hard time describing my music, but people tell me its funky, soulful rock with a 70s retro vibe. I don't really like to define it - I just hope that people dig it.For two years while we were working on the CD, I was performing in New York with my band. Usually Nunzio on guitar, Anthony on keys, Wes Little on drums. We performed at The Bitter End, Tribeca Rock Club, The Lions Den, Pianos, B3s and more...About a year ago, I relocatied to L.A. no more freezing cold winters and I can pursue my other passion, mountainbiking, all year round! I'm currently working on some new material, so stay tuned, L.A.!
