Founded in 1978, the original Avant Garde Progressive Rock band from Los Angeles, California. SOMA currently has a shredding new CD slated for a spring 2009 release... featuring Mark Gleed (keys/vox), Guy Eckstine (dr/prc/vox), David Shawn Waldroop (gtr), Allan Holdsworth (gtr) and Tony Levin (bass). JAZZIZ Magazine called their debut album "a melodic and orchestral cyclone" and "one vocal/instrumental tempest out to defy all forecasted trends" and "a mega-production, both in terms of sound layering and its outrageously eclectic roster of guest musicians" ... and then depression set in... (just kidding!)
Fast forward... More recently, a leaked demo CD of their current "work in progress" under the name "neverwasneverwillbe" somehow made the Top Five on a college radio airplay chart in London-based JAZZWISE Magazine... Veteran music critic Christopher Hoard has called SOMA's new recording THE NONBELIEVER'S COMEUPPANCE "more evil than anything Miles Davis ever played at the Fillmore or anything H.P. Lovecraft ever wrote in The Lurking Fear" and this time they're playing for keeps...A rather incomplete but still ominous version, mostly sans vocals, of the new magnum opus "Sugarplum Nothing" co-written by Mark Gleed and Allan Holdsworth is available for your listening pleasure above... along with several older tracks from SOMA's notorious self-titled debut album, including "A Little Hair Action" for all of you Marsha Brady fans... Yes, she really IS on the tune!! And Allan's guitar solo on the coda of The Grand Panjandrum is not to be missed, so do not digress any further...
