FIGHT FOR YOUR PINT
Oregon’s craft beers are under legislative attack!
The legislature proposed in the last session by Oregon Senator Bill Morrisette and Representative Jackie Dingfelder would catapult Oregon’s excise tax from one of the lowest in the nation ($2.60/barrel) to the highest in the nation ($34.60/barrel). The current national average is $7.75 a barrel. A brewery that brewed 180,000 barrels (i.e. Rogue) would go from paying $234,000 in tax to the unprecedented $3,500,000. Oregon, the number two producer of craft beer in the nation, has its 80 breweries employing 3800 Oregonians already paying $700,000 in excise while its 247 wineries only pay $260,000.
