TORMENTIUM

About Me

Tormentium was summoned in the Willamette Valley sometime in 2004-05. Wes (lead/rhythm guitars, backing and clean vocals - also in Soul Scythe) and Sky (lead vocals) conversed about exploring a dark and creative metal force. The hometown of Eugene, Oregon spawned few metal acts... yet was fertile ground for sinister and beautiful arts. Wes brought in his old friend Jesse (drums) and the three started playing metal during drinking practice. Wes had recently heard about a talented axe-shredder Ray (lead and rhythm guitars - also in Soul Scythe) and contacted him. Bass duties were reliably covered by Sky's old friend John. Over the course of 4 years of writing and playing shows, a Tormentium sound emerged. This sound is a haggard yet warm wall of melodic guitar harmonies set in traditionally inspired, yet unpredictably varied structures. Songs are complex and long, and not afraid to exploit the blast and the drone. Covering a wide range of emotions and subject matter, Tormentium has written about Heresy, Demonology, Apocalypse, Suicide, and a prideful... shameless Impiety. The song writing is evergrowing, and constantly becoming more epic and explorative, while intending a cultivation of personal growth and knowledge in directions far past the band itself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gods and their minions
lie dead in disgrace
Sacred hymns are rendered
As empty as their graves.
Voices of reason
Belated at best
Fade into oblivion
And draw their last breath...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tormentium has primarily been a live band since inception, sharing performances with a variety of influential bands such as Horna, Impaled, Phobia, Inquisition, Noctuary, Rotten Sound, High On Fire, Exhausted Prayer, Bloodstained Dusk, Zombie Ritual, and Unmerciful... as well as our local Northwestern brothers Drawn And Quartered, In Memorium, Wormwood, Ceremonial Castings, Wolves In The Throne Room, Inquinok, Middian, Reeker, Infernus, Fall of the Bastards, Rutah and many others.
Currently being constructed are a few releases encompassing 2 unreleased demos and new material due out before the end of human civilization in 2012.
May the passions of the degenerate human spirit persevere through dark art... yet suffer the fates soon to befall us all...
