DJ wizkid, Jason Beckett got involved in the music scene at a very early age, his brother ran a disco and he started helping him when he was about seven years old, then came along the sounds of Electro and Hip Hop, he became fascinated
With turntables and was desperate to get a set of his own so could learn to beat mix.
He got his first turntables in 1988 as the rave scene was going through its second
Summer of love.
After playing at every house party he could and constantly bugging promoters to give him a shot at playing at a rave he finally got a slot at an under 18s rave called Rage from his first performance he got a regular booking with Rage
And that lead to other promoters such as Telepathy, Pure Energy and the wonderland club, which became the famous club UK, booking him to play at these events.
As the dance scene changed so did wizkids musical style his he switched from techno to hard core.
By 1992 his djing career was booming and he decided to look into other avenues he could go down to take his music career further, he linked up with a local producer and made his first track called Blancmange.
The underground scene then moved on to Drum & Bass and wizkid followed it,
It was at this time he linked up with engineer/Producer 4mid they went on to produce their first track together entitled LUCYon the own record label called faceless productions.
Some after there was a lot of interest in the duo and they went on to sign a longer term contract wit quayside records, the two of them enjoyed success with a string of underground hits such as, smoker, Hells spliff, stick Em Wobbler and massive hey dreadlocks.
In 1997 wizkid moved over to UK Garage scene that fast taking over from the Drum & Bass as London No 1 sound, after spending a while adjusting to the new sound he finally got a deal with Scott Garcias Kronik records in 1999 he released a track called Hold On which got some very good reviews in the UK garage magazines. He then went on to do productions for Nice N Ripe and FX productions working with 4mid and the Kurrupt MC.
He also then started a club night at Londons cloud Nine club in Vauxhall, called Govnors of London Garage, which was very successful, then with 4mid started there recording studio which was called Dub-Wise studios,
Working with such clients as rimmel cosmetics, recording tracks for there advertising campaigns plus working with lots of new artists and of course making his own tracks.
After spending two seasons in Ayia Napa and Djing in Lebanon, Tenerife and Spain he returned to the UK to carry on his solo production work and quickly signed up to Nemesis records by Scott Garcia for the second time.
Dj wizkids cover version of the classic Joe Smooth track promised Land was a big hit in all the mainstream clubs and radio stations. Wizkid still DJs all over London and the UK and now is Resident Dj at Club Oceana in Kingston Upon Thames playing R&b and Hip Hop in the week and funky house and old skool classics on saturdays.
Dj wizkid plays everything from R&B, Hip Hop, Old School, Funky House, Garage, and House,
His plans for the future are quite straight forward he simply wants to continue doing well at the thing he loves the best, making and Djing infectious dance music that touches the parts that others simply cannot reach.
