About Me

http://www.videology.nu
Olga Mink works as a digital media-artist and filmmaker in the Netherlands. Her work ranges from conceptual media, to audiovisual performance, interactive installations and experimental (music-) video. She explores new boundaries within interdisciplinary media and digital image-making. She curates events in media-art and 'live cinema' performance.

Mink is interested in the relation between [intangible] media and the spatiotemporal coherence. Playing with the perception of image, sound and the environment, she invites the spectator to experience something that absorbes these given elements into something new. The physical representation in digital media is a reoccuring aspect in her work. Questioning the absence of the 'physical presence' in the digital era, she visualises her explorations by creating immersive and interdisciplinary installations. The multi-screen installation 'Ballet Mechanique'(2001) was a first approach of merging new technologies and various of the former ideas. By use of rectangular screens and a threedimensional projection set-up, an immersive visual environment about the body in movement was developed. By composing fragments of ‘movements’ into new forms and rhythms, a new experience of time and space was created. Works have been presented as a fixed installation, as well as multi-screen live performances. Her latest work examines motiontracking and interdisciplinary approaches to digital media and public space. Her conceptual work has lead her to create innovative art-projects. She has been commissioned to develope a permanent interactive video-installation for a new building, in 2004. This work called 'Video_matic' has been developed in collaboration with the architects, and is fully integrated with the architectural aesthetics of the building. Video-matic explores the networked media in a public environment, by use of interactivity with a touchscreen inside the building and projections at night. Networked interaction has been developed by use of an (online) application and a dedicated website.
As a live performer her work ranges from minimal abstractions to atmospheric landscapes. She combines a narrative and a conceptual approach to live video manipulation. She often combines a filmic and a graphic mood in her imagery. Short messages and rhythmic sequences are being mixed in an organic ambient style. The use of customised projection possibilities, is another important aspect in her performance. She has attended various media events in The Netherlands and internationally. Works have been released on NoTV’s Visual Music2, Triggermotion, Bip-Hop label (FR), and the Lightrhythmvisuals-DVD compilations. Festivals she performed include Lowlands festival, Big Chill, Club Transmediale, Glastonbury, AVITUK05, Impakt, International Filmfestival Rotterdam, Mappingfestival.
Former collaborations include performances with Eirenah as [Visual.Girlbot.Facility] and with composer Michel Banabila and trumpettist Eric Vloeimans. Current projects include the research into new interaction possibilities beyond the screen, with Roel Verlinden. 'L1ghts00p' uses infrared technology with LED systems. This project explores ideas beyond the screen, and is currently presented in Plaza Futura. A new project entitled "The Nature Of Being" is an audiovisual collaboration with London based musician Scanner.
Working as a curator, she invites emergent artists that work with new media. Festivals she curates include 'ImageRadio festival' (with MAD). Visual Active at 'State of the Image'in Arnhem, and 'Plaza+' in collaboration with Plaza Futura in Eindhoven. To explore and to share new developments in audiovisual media is her most important goal. The idea is to evoke new experiences by presenting unkown and contemporary perspectives in technical innovation and artistic expression. By means of performances which connects traditional and contemporary media, new experiences are being presented.
