About Me

I’ve always been around music. My mother plays piano and guitar, and as a kid she would sing me old Irish folk songs, her voice was beautiful. She was a hit in those country town eisteddfods back in the 50’s. She got me playing guitar very young. I soon got over "Old Danny Boy" and put it down till I was about 12 years old. I still did a mean Elvis impersonation and sang a strange version of "Carol County Accident".. When I was a teen, i liked anything with loud guitars. Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, AC/DC, The Stones and Black Sabbath. Suited up, in black tees and rolled up flannel shirts, I played in garage blues bands, with way too many guitar players in them for years. It wasn’t till my twenties that I mellowed and discovered artists like Nick Drake, Ray Charles, Dylan and Tim Buckley. These guys just made me want to sing, and opened up a whole new world of music for me.For the past four years I've worked as a sound engineer at The Troubadour in Brisbane, mixing a couple of thousand bands, along with running my own recording studio, Broadcaster Studios, in West End. It's taken me a while to find the time and momentum to work on my own music, but i'm glad to be finally demoing songs for my forthcoming record.Though, mixing the likes of Micah P. Hinson, Mark Kozelek, The Handsome Family, Okkervil River, The Kill Devil Hills, David Pajo (Papa M), and Hawksley Workman has played a big part in developing my ear. These musicians truly are, along with so many others, the inspiration and influence in my music.Dark alt. country/blues is i guess how you would class my songs, with lyrics that draw from late night bars and small town sweethearts. I'll soon be off overseas, and will hopefully be doing a few Scandinavian shows. Back in Australia mid August to play the usual haunts. Till then... MyGen Profile Generator
