About Me

MY WORLDY TRAVELS... "Nothing is permanent in this wicked world - not even our troubles."--Charlie Chaplin..Myspace BackgroundsMy name is Rose Goss, I was born Rose Marie Harmon on April 11, 1953, and was the last of twelve children. I grew up on a farm in Dayton, Illinois, until I was about ten and moved to Ottawa, Illinois, pop. 15,000. I have lived in California since 1973. I married Edward Goss on June 21, 1974. I am the mother of two. My only son, Bryten Goss, born August 23, 1976, died October 26, 2006 of a virus that attacked his heart, he was only 30 years-old. Bryten was a fine arts painter and left behind a legacy of work we are very proud of. My daughter, Shalon Goss, was born on November 9th, 1980, and is a professional photographer who specializes in Fine Art B&W, Editorial and Bands. She lives in Hollywood with Alexandra Breckenridge, who was my son's girlfriend. California. I am a writer/producer and an award-winning documentary producer, and now I am also the Director of BGFA. After graduating from Ottawa High School in 1971, I went on to study fine art at The Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, but then I became a writer rather than pursuing a career as a painter. When I saw my son could paint at a very young age, I did what I could to support those goals, using what I knew of fine art, and helped him and his sister enter the field of the arts. I was a magazine editor for several years, then did a stint as an entertainment journalist, then tiring of getting opinions from people based soley on them being famous, I began writing screenplays, which I found rewarding. From 2001-206, I was Nancy Cartwright's (the voice of Bart Simpson and more) personal advisor. I also produced with two others, the documentary, “The Day in the Life,” about the life of a voice actor, which received both “Gold Aurora Award” and the Accolade Award for best documentary. I co-wrote/directed Nancy in her world-traveling one-woman-show, “My Life As a 10-Year Old Boy,” which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, toured in Australia, NZ, England, and Canada. I am active in the community. In 06 I got an Outstanding Achievement Award from Pals, and in 07, a Cert of Recognition/Cert of Congressional Recognition from the City of LA as producer, co chair/host of Monte Carlo Night, a fundraiser for a new youth center for kids at risk. I co-founded Happy House, a group helping to build better families, and after my son died, I founded and am director of “The Bryten Goss Foundation for the Arts.” BGFA’s goal is to carry forward Bryten Goss’ legacy, but establish art related programs and scholarships that help inspiring young artists who excel in painting, drypoint, etching, photography and pastels make their dreams come true.

My Interests

“What a true friend does: for one thing they stand up for one, give him counsel, they help him in adversity, they safeguard his reputation, won’t hear ill of him, share his triumphs, ignore his faults.” - LRH.FAMILY TIME WITH MAXIMUS RHONE WIDMAIER, MY NEPHEW

I'd like to meet:

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." ~From a headstone in Ireland.“People do not seem to realize that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Music:

Favorite music by: Nina Simone, Edith Pilaf, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Van Morrison, Beth Gibbons, Loreena McKennit, Marta Sebastyen, folk songs, the oldies, especially the 60's/70's, Celtic music, Bluegrass, Blues, Classical--I guess I just love music in general it is always a part of my day! I avoid sad stuff right now, just too emotional.

Movies:

"Forget your personal tragedy. We are all bitched from the start and you especially have to be hurt like hell before you can write seriously. But when you get the damned hurt, use it-don't cheat with it." --Hemingway

Television:

Rose Goss' Community Outreach Activities

Books:

"There are some things which cannot be learned quickly, and time, which is all we have, must be paid heavily for their acquiring. They are simple things, and because it takes a man's life to know them, the little new that each man gets from life is very costly and the only heritage he has to leave." --Ernest Hemingway

Heroes:

"Any person that you feel very closely drawn to, concerned about, terribly interested about and that sort of thing falls into either of these two - either you've got a close, close wavelength harmonic going, or you've known them before." --LRH, 19 May 1964.
