Le Pirate

Quietly charging the ramparts of life

About Me

Dreamer, marketing guru, entrepreneur, company builder, produced feature film screenwriter, columnist, short story writer and novelist, multi-award winning producer (OK only 2, but one is a friggen neat gold statue), traveler, artist, pirate, and bum.
I like to turn ideas into reality. I have an active entrepreneurial spirit. I’ve helped build companies (including Earthlink and another one that hit 66 on the Inc 500). I was the President of the New Media Group of a Hollywood studio and recently have been helping Helio grow.
I've worked on the marketing of over 70 films and won a Hollywood Reporter Key Art Award for a poster I did for AFI. I've also directed some trailers, and I've done some acting on stage and in movies.
Basically, I’m a marketing guy… just one who’s had a very strong track record of success.
On the writing front I've written and co-written a number of feature film scripts, including a produced Showtime feature film that was also distributed internationally, have had a half dozen scripts optioned, done development work for studios, a work for hire script, etc.
I recently finished the book I had been working on for the last couple of years. My first novel. It's now in the hands of my new Literary Agent. I’m hoping for a deal before the end of the year. (Positive thoughts appreciated!)
I’m the founder and “Captain” of The Bards of Mystic. We do stories with sound-scapes, or as I like to call it “story-phonic performances.” The Bards is a relatively new undertaking, but so far people really seem to like it. We’ve had some unsolicited feedback from people we’ve never met that has blown me away. Click on the link below amongst my friends and sit back and enjoy a tale or two.
I've started my next book. I'm in the blood on the keyboard stage, slogging through the first draft. It's a good tale, but it's tough going when so much else is vying to occupy my attention (like, you know, a job as a hot shot marketing executive). It’s the biggest literary undertaking I’ve ever attempted and, well, it’s daunting at times.
Let’s see, what else…
I've traveled to at least 40 of the 50 states including Hawaii a number of times, France almost two dozen times, and forays to England, Mexico, Canada, multiple islands in the Caribbean (St. Barts is best) and Tahiti. I consider I've barely scratched the surface of the globe -- I want to do a lot more traveling.
I'm a hopeless romantic but with a practical streak. When I'm not working my ass off building companies, writing and working miracles I like to relax, and could be accused of being a lazy bum.
I’m usually soft spoken, and like to read stories out loud to an attentive audiences. Attentive is a key word here.
Love movies.
Hate television. Disconnected mine in 1991 – too addictive and the commercials are just too much and the constant negative news propaganda can leave you paralyzed.
Love great food and wine (French wine please, maybe Italian and Spanish, forget American), and to cook for an appreciative audience, but I don't like cleaning up.
Speak French well enough to get by with all the day to day stuff. If I could just spend more time in France I’d probably could pass as a native after, maybe, six months?
Married for 17 years to my lovely wife Tiare, who was born in Hawaii. She's her own woman, strong minded and opinionated. But she also takes very good care of me, gives me a kick when I’m being too lazy, and always backs me up whenever I pursue one of my dreams. And she’s become an awesome cook and baker. A formal dinner at our house (yes, we do those on occasion) is a gourmands fantasy come true. Heck even a casual dinner at our place can be better than most restaurants.
I’m a Scientologist, which has kept me sane, unleashed my muse, and cranked up the horsepower, just for starters.
Around 2015 I plan on doing a one year cruise throughout the Mediterranean on a 100 foot sailboat called the Princess of Avalon with a bunch of my friends.
I will eventually move to the south of France, to a big ancient house by a small river in the countryside surrounded by vineyards, lavender fields, and truffle forests, continue to write books, short stories and screenplays, keep The Bards going if it’s popular enough, and occasionally produce movies, maybe even direct a couple. I will invite my good artist friends to come and visit for a month or three or six, but only if they create new works.
Some Le Pirate quotes...
"Dream, then do. Without a dream life is frankly not worth living. Without the doing there is no hope, no game, no teammates, no triumphs, no glory, no salvation, liberation, or freedom, and no future. If you have a dream, get off your arse and do!" - Le Pirate
"That’s it. It’s time for the crew to get on board ship. In one hour I’m pulling up the gangplank and we are setting sail. I’m tired of this place. It’s starting to stink. The politics are getting rotten. And I don’t like the looks from the secret police hanging out on the docks" - Le Pirate
"Let us set sail. Honest adventure awaits. New sites, new tastes, new lands. Hot desert wind or cool forest breeze may great us. I can’t promise you the next port will be better, but it sure as hell won’t be the same." - Le Pirate
"Where's my ship? Where's my home? Where's my vineyard? How long shall I roam?" - Le Pirate
"The art of life requires pigments from distant lands." - Le Pirate
"While the attraction may be in the shape of the body, the color of the hair, or the motion of the hips, the seduction is always, always in the eyes." - Le Pirate
