About Me

Question? What happens when a vocalist, whose a 4 time Apollo Winner, a writer, whose a 3 time Russell Simmons HBO Def Poet, who both happen to be 2 Grammy Winning Artist team up to join forces like Voltron? Answer...ONE VERY MAGICAL EXPERIENCE!!!!! Over the years J. Ivy (Poet) and Tarrey Torae (Vocalist), two Chicago artists, have been very busy getting their names and their talents out there. Individually, both J. and Tarrey have toured the country ripping stages apart. They have been featured on several radio stations, whether by interview, featured performance, or the rotation of Tarreys hit single Still Will Love You. They have both recorded, written, and been featured on albums by Kanye West, where J. delivered a poetic page in history on the song "Never Let Me Down" with K. West & Jay-Z, and with John Legend, where Tarrey cleverly co-wrote and sang on Oprah Winfreys favorite single "Live It Up." Recently they have made contributions of their work to The Martha Stewart Show and they were also featured on the award winning show E.R. Their accumulated television credits include the NBA, HBO, MTV, B.E.T., VH1, NBC, CBS, and ABC, where J. authored and performed a stellar Prime Time opening tease for the FedEx Orange Bowl. They have shared the stage with the likes of Usher, Nas, El Debarge, Patti Labelle, Bob Dylan, Erykah Badu, Kanye West, John Legend, Miri Ben-Ari, Jill Scott, Common, The Black Crowes, Roy Ayers, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bo Diddley, The WallFlowers, and many, many more. Currently J. Ivy is heading up Verizon's nationwide "History in the Making" Campaign, which is featured in the Essence, Ebony, The Jet, Fader, American Legacy, and Black Enterprise, on radio commercials, and on a cinematic version, which was directed by Award Winning Director Bob Giraldi (Director of Michael Jackson's "Beat It") and can be seen in selected movie theatres across the country. And Tarrey Torae is touring nationwide and beyond with Hip-Hop's Award Winning star Talib Kweli, where her gift has been able to back up the young legend and lead to other writing oppurtunities. To put it plain, J. Ivy and Tarrey Torae have been the recipients of cheers, handclaps, tears, laughs, and standing O's from Chicago to Miami, from New York to L.A., from Jamaica to Toronto. They have been shown love no matter where their gifts have taken the two. After a performance in Paris, France the French said, after frantically cheering, "I could not understand all of the words that you said, but I could FEEL IT! They could FEEL IT!" And its that same feeling, that same energy that the two have spread over the years. Its that same energy that has been multiplied whenever the two tag team on stage. Its that same energy that people have said they've been healed by when they sit in the audience. It is this energy that has encouraged the two to become one, has encouraged the two to become J. Torae! Now, if youre still wondering what exactly is J. Torae? What style of music is J. Torae? What category does J. Torae fall in? Well, thats easy. Its not just a combination of Hip-Hop and R & B; its a breath of fresh air. Its that feel good music. Its that music you clean your house to. Its that music that you play at the bar-b-que. Its that music you let ride when you're in the car on a long road trip, or on your way to work. To put it short, J. Torae is that group that will move you as well as heal you, using their combination of poetry, soul, and music to change the World! Dream BIG!
